Should FLAC join Xiph?

This is a common misconception, but entirely untrue. There are many free software licenses, including the BSD-style licenses, which are compatible with the GPL. FLAC codec in OS X Leopard
I upgraded to Leopard (version 10.5 of OS X) a few weeks ago. Although I was a bit disappointed, but not surprised, to see that FLAC support isn't built natively into the OS, I was very happy to notice recently that Apple ships source code for a FLAC encoder and decoder codec component in /Developer/Examples/CoreAudio/AudioCodecs/ FLAC.xcodeproj. All that is necessary to build the

Duplicate mails
Hi, one of our customers reported a problem after we moved her maildir to another disk. (Jail in FreeBSD 6, moved to another disk with rsync.) For some reason she's seeing duplicates of almost every message from November, 2005 until June, 2006 (the move happened in September, 2006.) It seems like these mails have been respooled somehow and been inserted into the maildir with the same date

XP gives Access denied for domain logon - solved, but with new problem
I found the solution to the Access Denied errormessage. When I change my computer from workgroup to domain I have to use user root when giving username and password. I used frode, a non priviliged user, and that?s why it failed. I still have another problem though. When I try to log on with user anna on my laptop it works fine, but if I try user anna on my stationary, or user frode on either

SetLanguage application doesn;t seem to work in latest Asterisk
Hello everybody, I have installed Asterisk from CVS (18/07/2003) and although everything works fine, SetLanguage application doesn't seem to work. As it used to work with previous version I wonder if I am missing something here. The relevant line in extensions.conf is: exten => 3,1,SetLanguage(gr) In the directory where Asterisk sounf files reside, I have installed files of the type

Weigh that against the chances that FLAC Well, I think going GPL would be too much, only GPL softwares could use the library. BSD is too much too because changes in the software world (improvements, bugs, backdoors) would not be available to you. Only the hardware

saslauthd attack
I'm seeing a lot of activity over the last two days with what looks to be a kiddie script. Mostly trying to access several of our servers with the username anna. All failed... in fact I don't think we have a user anna on any of our servers. Meanwhile... I'm running Sendmail. This pertains to Centos 4 and 5 servers. I'm also running fail2ban on some and Ossec on others. So far,

Inexpensive Flac player for separates system?
The following is mostly for Nick, but perhaps there are others who might be interested in one part or another of the following... Nick, I think we're basically on the same page here. I'll first try to cover some of my basic ideas in general, then respond to your specific comments inline. For one thing, I have long believed that it is smart to keep analog audio circuits

OPUS/FLAC Metadata
Anyone know any workarounds for OPUS/FLAC metadata on IceCast? I’ve monitored my inbound stream and this is working correctly (or at least the formatting and data for the OPUS stream is identical to the MP3/AAC+ streams). I see people with OPUS streams and metadata but they may not be using IceCast. Is it safe to assume we’ll see this in the next version? Rick

"A device attached to the system is not functioning"
Hello, Samba 3.0.2a, Debian linux, 2.6.x kernel, PDC server, WinXP clients. When I try to log in on a XP client I get this message: "A device attached to the system is not functioning" I have tried google'ing for the error, but to no avail. I have earlier created a user (anna), which can successfully log in from my laptop. When I try to log in with anna on my workstation, I

Relicensing Xapian
This is an update on the current status of the relicensing, but also an opportunity to give feedback. Sorry it's rather long, but I think it's necessary to summarise the situation - there are probably list members who weren't even born at the start of the history of this! Xapian is currently licensed as GPLv2+, but isn't something we actually chose for Xapian, but rather due to a
