CentOS5, kernel update and 3ware driver
I'm using CentOS5 64bit on a system with a 3ware 9650SE card.
I installed the OS using the driver disk files provided by 3ware. It
worked fine with the original CentOS5 kernel.
After doing a "yum update", which also installed an updated kernel, the
system didn't work after a reboot, using the new kernel.
I rebooted the old kernel, moved the 3w-9xxx.ko file from

3ware 9650SE drivers for CentOS 5.0-EL kernel 2.6.18-8
Hi,
I'm trying to install K12LTSP based on CentOS 5.0-el 32bits kernel
2.6.18-8 on a server with 3ware 9650SE raid controller. Does anybody
know where I can find a driver diskette for the raid controller as this
is only supported from kernel 2.6.19.
Thanks for any help

smartd and 3ware on centos5
Hi,
I've CentOS5 box with 3ware RAID controller in it. I can't get the
tw_cli command line tool to work, and smartd also barks on me. The
tw_cli simply doesn't see the controller, no errors logged anywhere.
When starting smartd, it is much more verbose. I'm getting a bunch of
messages like this:

Troubles with CentOS5 and 3ware RAID controller
Folks,
Since approx. a half year I have run two servers with CentOS4, all was
running very stable.
Then I upgraded to CentOS5 (fresh install). The servers are running
quite unstable since the upgrade. The system is freezing after short uptime.
I suspect the driver for the 3ware controller, because I got such error
messages:
3w-xxxx: scsi0: Character ioctl (0x1f) timed out, resetting card.

Motherboard + 3ware 9650SE suggestions
Hello everyone!
Working on putting a storage server together and wanted to get some input as
to what motherboards have been working for people with the 3ware 9650SE-12ML
raid board. This is large, bulk storage, 2-tier stuff. This will not be
used for realtime editing of video or something, but a gig nic is almost a
given I hope.
I have an AMD chip available (AM2 slot) but I can get a new chip

CentOS 6.0 and 3ware 9650SE series RAID Performance
Hello,
Does anyone have experience using a 3ware 9650SE series raid controller on
CentOS 6.0?
I am getting very sporadic throughput with moderately sized files (0.5-2GB)
on ext3. I have tried most of the mount time tuning options:
* noatime
* trying different journal types
* setting commit=120 - helped a little
Even after these optimizations it doesn't seem like the raid array is
working

Thanks to the list for 3ware RAID info...
All:
Thanks to everyone who participated in the rather long thread
recently about RAID arrays and CentOS. I have been needing to
research RAID for CentOS for some time, so the discussion was timely
for me.
Based on the discussion in that thread, I bought a 3ware 9650SE card
and a bunch of WD drives. I was told by 3ware that 9650SE driver
will likely not be in the CentOS 5 kernel

3Ware 9650SE tuning advice
Hello fellow sysadmins!
I've assembled a whitebox system with a SuperMicro motherboard, case,
8GB of memory and a single quad core Xeon processor.
I have two 9650SE-8LPML cards (8 ports each) in each server with 12 1TB
SATA drives total. Three drives per "lane" on each card.
CentOS 5.2 x86_64.
I'm looking for advice on tuning this thing for performance.

3ware 9650SE success
I had posted a question recently on this list regarding the new series of
cards from 3ware, and wanted to follow up with some real-world results.
My test motherboard was an Intel D945GTPLKR (a desktop board). I was able to
use the motherboard video and plug the 3ware card into the PCIe x16 slot. The
card I was testing with (16ML) is a PCIe x8 card. Hardware-wise, everything

Kernel modules errors and weird xl behavior with Xen 4.1
Hello,
I''m using Gentoo Linux amd64 with the 2.6.34-xen-r4 kernel from portage.
I''ve been successfully using Xen 4.0 for almost a year, but now it
seems that with the dawn of Xen 4.1, the package maintainers have
forces unstable users to upgrade from 4.0 to 4.1
Looking forward to try the new xl interface, I installed it, but there
seem to be a few problems with xen-4.1

3ware 9650 issues
I've been having no end of issues with a 3ware 9650SE-24M8 in a server that's
coming on a year old. I've got 24 WDC WD5001ABYS drives (500GB) hooked to it,
running as a single RAID6 w/ a hot spare. These issues boil down to the card
periodically throwing errors like the following:

3Ware 9690SA
I successfully installed CentOS on 3ware 9650SE controller. Due to some
issues with compatibility with my motherboard, I replaced it with a
9690SA.
Now the system won't boot (although interestingly enough, it find the
boot menu fine, just won't boot past a certain point in the bootup phase.
I thought I would reinstall, but anaconda doesn't find the raid array.

4.92 beta update to centos5 proper words of caution
For those of you who are going to do the update from the centos5 beta
to centos 5 proper despite the warnings, this is a(n incomplete) list
of instructions for how to accomplish this
1. Get yourself into runlevel 3 (telinit 3 from terminal) as the dbus
update will die if you're in X.
2. Setenforce 0 # turn off selinux as there have been some unconfirmed
reports that it will interfere with the

[OT/HW] hardware raid -- comment/experience with 3Ware
Greetings,
I am looking for a hardware raid card that supports up to 4 SATA II
hard disks with hot swap (compatible raid cage)
I have short listed two LSI/3Ware cards:
1. 9750-4i
2. 9650SE-4LPML
Both appear to be well supported in Linux.
I would appreciate your personal experience with the CLI tools
provided by LSI.
Can they be configured to send email for disk failures or SMART errors?

1.8.4 and write-through cache
Afternoon
I upgraded our oss''s from 1.8.3 to 1.8.4 on Saturday (due to
https://bugzilla.lustre.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22755) and suffered a
great deal of pain.
We have 30 oss''s of multiple vintages. The basic difference between them is
* md on first 20 nodes
* 3ware 9650SE ML12 on last 10 nodes
After the upgrade to 1.8.4 we were seeing terrible throughput on the
nodes with

3Ware 9650SE and XFS problems under Centos 5.3
Hello all,
Came across my first real "problem" in all the years I've been using Linux today and I'm stumped for an answer.
I've recently built a back-up server on top of Centos 5.3 using a 3Ware 9650SE 4 port SATA card and 4 x 1.5TB drives in a RAID 5 array. I went for the 3Ware card as it has driver support already so any kernel updates won't require me to rebuild the

modern motherboard for centos-5
I'm considering upgrading, and am trying to choose a modern motherboard
that nevertheless fully works with Centos5/RHEL5.
Though I'm partial to AMD processors, and would like to use one in my
new configuration, that's not a requirement, if the most appropriate
board happens to be intel-compatible.
However, given the way ASUS is dumping LInux and crawling more firmly

Samba "hijack" the connection?
Dear all,
I have 2 domains: JUPITER.COM (Samba 3.0.23c - Centos5) and WIN.COM (Windows
2000 Adv Srv). I join a windows XP SP1 (MOON), first to Windows domain and
then to Samba's.
The problem is when I join the XP to Samba's and then try to logon to WIN.COM,
the XP is instead logon to Samba, thus the username is not found. The DNS is
not a problem, I set the DNS of the XP to
