RE: [Shorewall-users] SMTP outbound problem (fwd)
I think we should add an FAQ entry for tcp_ecn.
I remember Tom giving a good description in one of his many responses
and there is mention of it in the pptp page, but I could not find the
response from Tom about different tcp stacks.
Thanks,

Shorewall suggestions
Just a note to mention that I have been using the RC1 release at work
for a simple one interface firewall. No problems that I have seen.
We use Solaris, AIX, Tru64, and Linux in my group at the U of W.
I know some IP filter package is available on Solaris and Tru64. On the
Tru64 system you can configure an interface with a list of cidr notation
subnets to accept or deny access. I reformatted

Thanks Tom. Development doldrums in another open source project
I, too, want to thank Tom for such a great software package and all the
support he has always given.
I was just reading a Slashdot interview with the Nagios/NetSaint author
Ethan Galstad. The whole article is interesting and I bet the questions
and answers would be similar for Shorewall:

whitelist
I looked at the 1.3 whitelist documentation and realized that the ops
example, while interesting in and of itself, did not do what I think a
whitelist does. Back to symmetry, if a blacklist is a list of sites not
allowed to connect in through the fire wall, maybe to a web server, for
example, then a whitelist should be a list of machines that are allowed to
access a service or services, again,

Use of Wine to access devices via Windows programs
Am attempting, so far without success, to access an Olympus Digital Recorder. It is connected to my PC by USB cable but is not recognised in Linux.
Olympus do not provide software for Linux use.
Have installed Digital Wave Player, the windows program supplied by Olympus, in Wine and have had a USB drive installed in Wine Configuration but when I run Digital Wave Player there is no communication

Anyone succeeded to update an Olympus LS-10?
The Olympus LS-10 is an audio recorder and you need Windows or MacOS to update it. I also have its competitor Zoom H4n, which can be updated no matter what operating system you use, very nice indeed; just copy a file to the root directory of the Zoom and then restart the Zoom while holding PLAY/PAUSE, which will cause it to update itself.
But the Olympus doesn't work this way. You must

security=domain problems
Hi all,
We are having some problems getting a solaris 9(sparc) file server
running samba 2.2.2 to authenticate aginst a windows NT 4 PDC. Let me
say first that this was all working at one time, then we had some data
corrumption on our NFS mounted /usr/local, and had to restore from tape.
Due to some issues with solaris ufsdump and ufsrestore, stuff was not
quite put back properly. We do

multi-site DNS confusion
Greetings,
This is my first attempt at multi-site with unique subnets (actually
first attempt at more than on DC).
I had the existing "defaultFirstSite" then added a second site and
two subnets (that I associated with each site).
I joined a second DC from the second site with the following:
samba-tool domain join ssc.domain.com DC -Uadministrator --realm=
ssc.domain.com

HEADSUP: USB da(4) quirks disabled for 4.9 and 5.2
If you have any of the devices listed below, please test with a recent
-stable or -current. They will stop working in 4.9 and 5.2 although old
behavior can _temporarily_ be enabled by adding "options DA_OLD_QUIRKS" to
your kernel config. If I don't hear from anyone, they'll be going away
permanently after the releases.

More info - S-Plus compatability
Dear all,
Thanks to those of you who have replied, the majority of the
comments pointed out that the error caused by scan may originate
from another function, and closer inspection of the output from
traceback() reveals that it is in fact the read.table function where
the error is originating from the full output of which I have included
below.
The error msg I recieve is

Re: error: internal error: Failed to reserve port 5908
Try setting autoport to yes in the graphics section of your xml... then libvirt will autosearch for a free port. You can get the port number by running 'ps aux | grep [vmname]' and look in the line for the port number.
I gess you have another service running that is using port 5908...

Master of Olympus - Zeus wont start in Wine for Mac
Hi,
I'm having some trouble running Master of Olympus - Zeus in Wine for Mac. I use Wine 1.2.2 (installed via MacPorts), and I'm running Mac OS 10.6.6 on a 2 GHz Intel MacBook.
I installed the program from the command line by first changing to the correct directory (on the original cd), and then running
wine setup.exe
All the way through the installation, everything looked all right,

We recently upgraded to the latest Samba3 version v3.0.23c. If the Samba

credential.
However if the Samba system and the AD belong to different domain, I can
