I did some research on patent claims on range and arithmetic coding. The original range code pdf presented in the UK by an ibm employee at the time asserts no patent claims what so ever. If there are patents I cant find em. I have the original paper in PDF if anyone cares to see it. Its a good candidate for encoding because browsing a few of the implememntations avaialable on line, I can roll my

Bug Report. Replay-gain and ogg.
I just bought an I Audio mobile device (Btw, these thigns are the coolest players on the face of the earth.. might want to check em out). It plays ogg vorbis files rather nicely. My whole music library is sitting in flac format. When I encoded my flac files (the majority a year ago) I used replay gain to save the album and track information if the flac file. Unfortunately, the I audio doesnt like

(no subject)
hi! I wanna do some arithmatic operations (addition and substraction -integer operation) inside extensions.conf. Is there a simple way to do this. If I do yy = ${xx} + 1 // say "xx" is initialized to '0' the resulting "yy" will show "0 + 1" Obiviously not the result I need. Any help !!!!! denzel.

Decoding raw vectors every other byte
I have to decode raw vectors read from a connection like this: +++++++++++++++++++ fl<-file.choose() fb<-file.info(fl)$size fc<-file(fl) open(fc,open='rb') seek(fc,where=offset) dat<-readBin(fc,'raw',n=(fb-offset),size=1,signed=FALSE) close(fc) ++++++++++++++++++ The decoding performs a combination of a simple bitwise operator and a simple arithmatic operator on

Cisco MC3810
Hi Everyone, I'm new to asterisk and trying to get together the hardware to run a few POTS phone extentions and one or two POTS lines for starters. For these low port counts, I could just go with FXS and FXO cards, but... I can get a Cisco MC3810 with a mixture of FXO and FXS ports, the MC3810 comes with a built in ethernet port and I believe it does SIP too... Will this mean that I

system clock uses UTC selection on centos install

Hanging @ Sendmail During Boot
Hi All, I have a coupla queries about my 2 latest installs of CentOS 4-3. When I first installed and logged in as the initial user, everything went well, and the system was fast. A reboot, and 2nd login gave the same. But, upon connecting to the net, the system hung at sendmail for almost 4mins, and then gave an error at login about not finding the host, and that Gnome may not work

ANNOUNCE: openssh-1.2.1pre18
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I have just uploaded 1.2.1pre18. This is mainly merges from the OpenBSD tree, bugfixes for Solaris and libc5 Linux systems. It should fix all reported bugs except the snprintf problems on some older Solaris versions. Please test thoroughly, my hope is to have a stable version released before Jan 1. At this point the main holdup is Solaris. I have

the problem of buying and selling
I own a lot to the folks on r-help list, especially arun who answered every of my question and was never wrong. I am disinclined to once again ask this question, since it is more arithmatic than technical. But, having worked 2 days on it, I realized my brain is just not juicy enough.... Here is the problem. Trust not for freedom to the Franks--- They have a king who buys and sells. -

State space modelling
Hi, I'm new to R and am trying to implement a state-space model, and do some simulations looking at how well it works. Does anyone have an example I could use as a template? I'm having trouble working out where to start, and haven't been able to find anything similar in the help files or on the web. My example is a surplus production fisheries model, so something similar to that

How to generate a random variate that is correlated with a given right-censored random variate?
Hi, I have a right-censored (positive) random variable (e.g. failure times subject to right censoring) that is observed for N subjects: Y_i, I = 1, 2, ..., N. Note that Y_i = min(T_i, C_i), where T_i is the true failure time and C_i is the censored time. Let us assume that C_i is independent of T_i. Now, I would like to generate another random variable U_i, I = 1, 2, ..., N, which is

Open Source Compression
I thought some here may find this interesting... There has been discussion in Monkey's Audio forum about creating a new open source format for lossless audio compression with the intent of creating a *standard* for lossless compression, similar to what Xiph is trying to do with Ogg Vorbis. Some have even been tossing around the idea of trying to work in conjunction with Xiph on this, and a

simple script idea
Hi there... Foolish me.... all was going sooooooo well and then I got a wild hair and updated to the latest clamav .92 today. It is possible I should have just done an rpm update install yet there were some changes in ClamAV lately and I didn't know how well that would go. up till now I spec'd and rolled my own Clamav RPMs without milter somewhat recently ClamAV changed from having a
