reliable mp3 NON X player for streams
Hi there,
I'm urgently searching for a bulletproof NON-X mp3 player for high bit
rates that can be remotely controlled - if possible. (Server-Client?!)
Right now I'm using mpg123 and this program not always starts flawlessly
with streams.
All ideas are appreciated.

distorted native music on hold
Hello,
Using asterisk-1.2.1 I am trying to convert my music-on-hold files from
.wav to alaw:
% sox moh.wav -r 8000 -c 1 moh.al resample -ql
The file sounds fine when listened with:
% sox mox.al -t ossdsp /dev/dsp
But when listened through asterisk with an alaw SIP phone the sound is
clicky and too fast.
Did I forget something in my conversion command?

[Flac-users] FLAC 1.0.4 problems
I'm having a number of problems related to building the latest FLAC
release. My build environment: Linux, PPC, gcc 2.95.3
The first has to do with with builing FLAC itself... specifically I
can't get id3lib support to build. Whether or not I specify the
location of the headers and libraries, the config.log turns up this:
configure:9361: gcc -o conftest -g -O2 -INONE/include

what player for Mac OS 8/9?
The software page's only currently maintained Ogg Vorbis player for Mac-people is the iTunes plugin that seems to be for OS X only.
Is there no player for Mac OS 8 or 9?

[Flac-users] error: FLAC required!
Hi everybody!
I'm in trouble again, could you help me?
This time I can't get deal with "flac-tools" and other programs that use
libFLAC. They just refuse compiling and complain for some functions indefinition.
I have flac-1.0.4 already installed with ordinary: ./configure && make && make install.
Read down for the details please.

command-line flac tool to report song length?
I've got a bunch of flac files and need to report their length.
With MP3s, you use `mp3info -x $filename`
But is there a way to find out the length (minutes:seconds or just seconds) of a flac audio file, without converting it to WAV first?
Thanks!

Streaming flac problems!!
Hello,
My name is Vincent and I have some difficulties to realize my project.
Indeed, I must developp a streaming flac client/server and I have some
difficulties to find detailed information about this.
I chose to use the platform Ices/Icecast to do my project. I took the Vorbis
streaming like example but the library has not the same structure as the
flac library.
So , I send this message in

CD Baby using FLAC to archive 40,000 CDs
Hey FLAC gang -
Just thought you'd like to know CD Baby has switched to FLAC for archiving the 40,000 CDs we have in stock.
Luckily HD space is down below $1/gig so we got a 6-terabyte RAID-5 box set up for about $7000.
Got the FreeBSD boxes churning away night and day, ripping and archiving.
I'll do a more formal press release for ya in a couple months as we're further along, but

flac123 revival
Hello Dan Johnson, hello list,
It's really weird that there's no working command line player for FLAC
files. Dan Johnson created flac123 (licensed under the GPL) to fill that
gap, and started the flac-tools project.
Unfortunately, flac123 doesn't work anymore with the latest FLAC, and
the flac-tools project has been idle for more than a year.
I created a patch that makes flac123

Streaming With Flac
We have FLAC support on our AudioReQuest products, and we allow
streaming from our built-in web server for MP3s, but can not get Flac
working. Does anyone know a Windows based player that will play FLAC
streams?
I have tried the Winamp plug-in for FLAC (even updated it to 1.1.0), but
streaming is not working. We use embedded id3 tags instead of Flac
comments if this means anything. Thanks

Realtime resampling/encoding with oggenc
Don't know if anybody is still missing the lame oggenc features for
resampling, lowpass/highpass filters etc, but I wrote a little script that
uses sox to do all the stuff I need to real-time encode oggenc from the
radio, or any input device.
#!/bin/bash
DATE=`date '+%m-%d-%Y-(%H.%M)'`
DESTIN=/video/music/perftoday
export DATE=$DATE'-PerformanceToday.ogg'

Previewing oggvorbis files in GNOME...
Hi. I'm wondering if anyone out there can give me a little help trying
to figure something out: I presently am running CentOS4.1 with GNOME as
my desktop (It runs quite well, I must say!). I just have a little
curiosity: I have a few audio files (.wav, .mp3 and .ogg) and I like to
"preview" them. When run my mouse over the .wav files (and mp3 files)

Speex test cases?
I'm trying to get speex to encode a bit faster, mainly by rewriting a few
functions in SSE and translating the GCC __asm__ to VC __asm.
There's 2 functions I'm targeting, first is vq_nbest which consumes 40% of
the time at high complexity and split_cb_search_shape_sign. Which consumes
just over 30%. I've split out two functions from:
cb_search_precompute_energy - loop at the

Vorbis on OS/2
Following a few months of lurking on the list, and vainly trying to get vorbis to compile
on os/2, I finally managed to get the nightly gzip from saturday to compile (fairly)
cleanly, and so have finally been able to play with Vorbis on my OS of choice :)
Using the EMX runtime system, and bash for OS/2 (along with a few ported GNU apps),
both configure and make work fine (except for ogg123

flac-1.0.3_beta released
Which plugins do you mean? I thought I remember Winamp, for instance,
being able to do word-length reduction on the fly. The only place I
can find this feature is in the Monkey's Audio codec plugin, though.
Anyway, great news Josh! Thanks for making 24-bit audio support in FLAC a
priority. :)

Question about Ogg files Structure
Hi,
I bought an iRiver HP-120 which can read ogg files (via a hard drive).
Many people experiment that reading ogg file decrease the baterry charge
more quickly than with mp3 at the same bitrate.
The only raisonnable reason of that mysterious thing is that reading ogg
file is not sequential onto hard drive, and the hard drive head must
move more than for reading an mp3 at the same quality, and
