This is a common misconception, but entirely untrue. There are many
free software licenses, including the BSD-style licenses, which are
compatible with the GPL.
You can read more about various free software licenses here:

new mailing list - advocacy@xiph.org
We've had a few requests for a place where advocacy efforts can be
discussed.
I've created a new mailing list, advocacy@xiph.org. This is going to be
a place where we:
- discuss adoption strategies
- coordinate vendor support requests
- help coordinate promotion activity
I encourage everyone who is interested in promoting, advocating and
evangelizing Vorbis, Icecast and other Xiph.org

Should FLAC join Xiph?
This is an issue I've been dealing with lately, too. My employer is
releasing an image file format as open source, and I want to release it
under a license that both free and commercial software developers are
comfortable using.
I looked at TIFF and PNG, two examples of "free" image file formats that
have been widely adopted by both commercial and free software. Both have

Right. bitmap is the way to gather pages to chunk.
It's only needed in the balloon page case.
For the unused page case, we don't need it, since

Arabic Wiki pages, again
Could I please, pretty please, with whipped cream and a cherry on top,
be given the privilege to alter the most exalted and sublime of pages,
the Arabic wiki? :)
I'm still pumped up about this and I'm planning on staying pumped up
about this for quite some time.

Fw: Hostname problem
Thanx,
I've tried to use a LMHOSTS file using :
nmbd -H /ets/LMHOSTS -D
and changed the name resolve order to :
name resolve order = wins lmhosts bcast
I've also forced the Netbios name to linbox (in LMHOSTS and smb.conf) but it still says that s098 is not recognised !
So, I don't know what to do :(
As someone mentioned, it would be fine to be able to disable DNS lookup (which is

Well, I think going GPL would be too much, only GPL softwares could use
the library. BSD is too much too because changes in the software world
(improvements, bugs, backdoors) would not be available to you. Only the
hardware

ACM for FLAC.
Hi,
Has there been any progress on the ACM for FLAC

Sorry, I sent my reply to engdev privately (because there's no good
reply to). In short I haven't worked on

I've thought of doing lossy compression before on instruments, but I'd
much rather stick to lossless, at least for now. There are issues to be
sorted out

R ``literal'' comand
I know I am luddite when it comes to list-based languages, such as
R. But, even these beasts must occasionally want to access objects
at a literal level. For example, to a naive twit like me, x<--print
(y) should deposit in x a literal print out of y; that is, x should
contain the *results* of applying the print method to y (e.g.,
something like a tab (or space)-delimited flat

Accessing games at mysticisland.net through wine
Has anyone tried to access any mystic island games, www.mysticisland.net , using wine. I'm using SuSE 11.0 64 bit. I'm only having a limited amount of luck doing it and if someone else has figured it out I might not have to post a rather long bug report that I generated opening it in terminal mode.
