FLAC .ogg fiels & XMMS
I'm using the FLAC v1.0.3 plugin on XMMS v.1.2.7 (RedHat 8.0). It will play .flac files correctly, but will not play flac compressed .ogg files. If I rename the .ogg files to .flac, they work fine. I assume this is an issue with XMMS, but I thought I'd bring it up here first to see if anyone has experience with this problem. cheers, glenn

24-bit support in winamp2 plugin
OK, I finally fixed the linear dithering code in the Winamp 2 plugin. I have not figured out all the whiz-bang GUI-based configuration stuff yet so as it stands the plugin will play back 24-bit FLAC files and dither them down to 16-bit. I don't know how to check if the output module supports 24-bit either, but you can recompile the plugin without the #define FLAC__DO_DITHER to force it to do

OS X compile errors
I just tried to compile FLAC 1.0.5 beta1 under Apple's X11 v0.1 (released today) and it didn't work. The error message was: file_decoder.c: In function `_declspec': file_decoder.c:477: warning: unused parameter `dllimport' file_decoder.c:478: warning: unused parameter `FLAC__file_decoder_process_until_end_of_file' make[4]: *** [file_decoder.lo] Error 1 make[3]: ***

Need help building Red Hat RPM
I'm trying to build a Red Hat 7.3 RPM, and the XMMS plugin build is failing, because the FLAC libraries aren't installed yet. I've looked at some of the SRPMS out there. They all patch Makefile.am in the XMMS plugin directory to make things work, but I can't to that on Red Hat 7.3, because it uses automake-1.4p5. (I know it's old, but upgrading it would likely break just

[Flac-users] streaming in xmms?
Sorry for all the "my plugin don't work" questions... I can't seem to get http streaming of flac files to work in xmms. When I open an m3u with http URLs, the xmms window just says Invalid FLAC file: "http://localhost/foo.flac" This is with flac 1.0.3 and xmms 1.2.7. This is supposed to work, right? Thanks, steven.

XMMS 1.2.6 package in debian breaks xmms-flac
This is mostly to Matt Zimmerman. The xmms package in unstable was updated to 1.2.6-1; that's fine. Then I noticed my XMMS would no longer play FLAC files. I run testing, not unstable, I thought. What could have happened? That change was propagated into testing without an xmms-flac update! Huh? This makes me wonder: xmms-flac 1.0.2-1 should depend on xmms = 1.2.5. I think because this

Frustrated with Ubuntu XMMS, XMMS-Liveice, and icecast
I have XMMS and XMMS-liveice setup to use ALSA to stream audio to my icecast server using LAME encoding. I start the sound file and i can see XMMS playing away happily, icecast detects the connection and shows the source as being connected, but no bandwisth useage. If I connect to the icecast server I get a client connection, but no sound. Scanning other forums there appears that there might

xmms-mp3
Hi, I have a (stupid?) problem getting xmms-mp3 added to a CentOS 3.1 desktop: 'xmms' is the distro one, and 'xmms-mp3' comes from Dag Wieers (I used to use freshrpms on redhat 9, but for some reason freshrpms doesn't do rhel3). Any ideas? drempt:/root-# yum install xmms-mp3 Gathering header information file(s) from server(s) Server: CentOS 3.1 - Addons Server: CentOS 3.1 -

XMMS with liveice-xmms plugin
Am I making the right assumptions.... I run icecast and then only need to run xmms with the plug in enabled to stream to the net.... Or do I need to run LiveIce as well??? When I try running liveice and xmms together xmms locks up. Any ideas? playing mp3's
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 My main system is Fedora. To get mp3's working I added freshrpms to my yum.conf file. This allowed me to install xmms-mp3. Should I add freshrpms to CentOS? I searched google and didn't find much on this topic. If there is another way to get mp3's and other multimedia working I would like to know. - -- You can get my public PGP key at

xmms-flac security update breaks XMMS' flac-playing ability
Hello, First post to this group. I've been searching for about a week now to find anyone who can solve this problem or point me to the solution. I've been a happy xmms-flac user for 4 years until this week when some new FLAC security updates came along and completely stopped XMMS from playing FLACs on my PC. This is most irritating as I have over 3,500 CDs ripped and FLAC'd in

XMMS: busywaiting??
So, I'm seeing XMMS behave mighty strangely here. decode_example piped into a command line player manages to playback realtime on my p233 somewhat easily. XMMS (with the Vorbis plugin) utterly pegs the CPU and stutters badly. So, I started playing. Playing back mp3, xmms stutters badly (mp123 and xaudio play back realtime without difficulty). Playing back straight wav files, xmms also

xmms and icecast2
hi, I was wondering if anyone can help me. At the moment I am finishing off a project that is more or less a stream management system, kind of like a web jukebox with a time-based scheduling facility and several other 'radio-like' features... I am using xmms-shell to control the replay of ogg files. I also use noxmms to kill the gui of xmms so I can run the application from a remote

Why is ogg123 so much slower than XMMS?
On a PII233 system running linux with ogg-vorbis-RC2, when playing a 2-min 48kbps ogg file, ogg123 takes much more CPU time than XMMS (several seconds with ogg123 vs. less than one second for all XMMS threads added up). Since the pids are the same, I am sure that XMMS did not create new threads when playing one song. I think this has to do with soundcard interaction. <p>--- >8 ----

Mac OS X - xmms plugin probs
I'm making a Fink package for FLAC. It all builds fine except for the xmms plugin. I'd use the pbproject, but fink users are likely to want the xmms plugin which pbxbuild does not build. Also it seems the pbproject does not build dynamic libraries. I build with: ./configure --prefix=/sw --mandir=/sw/share/man make make install DESTDIR=/tmp (to simulate building into a deb file) The

Using liveice-xmms with icecast
hi, in an attempt to set up a little stream, i downloaded and installed both icecast2 and liveice-xmms. i can start icecast2, and i can modify the settings to the xmms plugin from within xmms, but i'm at a loss as to how to create a stream, connect it to the server, or then listen to it. i've been looking at the docs on the icecast page[1]. can anyone point me in the right direction?
