dropping id3 support
after spending a lot of time integrating X-Fixer's winamp2 plugin code, I am on the verge of removing id3 v1/v2 support from the plugins completely. it is really hard to get right in a way that works intuitively for the user, and i18n is also a nightmare. in id3v2 every field can have a different encoding. FLAC tag a.k.a. Vorbis comment support is very good now so unless someone comes up

flac-1.0.3_beta released
Awesome, I'm psyched for 1.0.3.... the ID3v1 winamp2 support will be a neat addition, as is the faster decodes. Will 24-bit audio play nice with the final public version of 1.0.3? stat() and Windows
I tried to compile FLAC on Windows (the winamp2 plugin as a test) and I encoutered a problem. The stat() function and the associated structure doesn't exist on Windows (Visual Studio 5/6). But _stat and the structure with the same name does exist. So would it be possible to change stat() and struct stat ? I did the following in the code : #define STAT(x,y) _stat(x,y) typedef struct stat

flac-1.0.3_beta released
I have just released a source distribution which is the candidate for the 1.0.3 release. At this time I would ask anyone who is willing to help test it to do the following: 1. download the tarball and unzip it: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/flac/flac-1.0.3_beta-src.tar.gz?download 2. do ./configure && make && make check This will build all code and run all the tests.

newbie questions re flac on win32 eac and id3v2
Firstly, a big thank-you to Josh for FLAC. Someone mentioned it in a post on Slashdot, so I came over to sourceforge for a look-see. This is just the sort of thing I've been looking for. Can anyone relate any general tips for using flac on Windows for the purpose of archiving cd's? If I can nail down a solid, easy-to-use process, I'm happy to write it up and contribute it to the

Re: [Flac-announce] FLAC 0.7 released (but DON'T USE)
OK, after some debugging, it turns out this is related to an earlier bug (#131976 which has a temporary workaround). In other words, it will not trigger unless you are encoding more than 2 channels, and only then at large blocksizes (>32k samples). The full fix will be in 0.8 Josh --- Josh Coalson <xflac@yahoo.com> wrote: > A bug fix in 0.7 created another bug related to >

getting framesize in client
I have few notes: It seems there is changed API in CVS again. So, what about adding function like unsigned FLAC__format_frame_size(const FLAC__Frame *frame) which returns size of the frame in bytes. This can be useful, for example, in xmms plugin to display current bitrate like vorbis plugin does. If 'PERFORMER' field is missing in vorbis comment, it would be nice to display
