new project using Speex, questions re: license display
Hello -
We've just released a new app for Android phones that uses the Speex codec -
it's called RedPhone. Our website is at www.whispersys.com. I wanted to
let you know that we were using the codec, say thanks for making this
valuable resource available, and check to make sure we were handling the
display of the licensing in a way that the developers were happy with.
Right now the

Speex for XScale IXP425
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had managed to get speex to run (nicely) on
an IXP425 processor. The current version does not seem to have the
necessary optimisations for the ARM v5te, just the v5 which has
assembly optimisations not understood by this target.
Failing that, does anyone know where I might get a reference for this
model of processor? I have look on the Intel site, but I can't

streaming speex frames
Hi,
I want to stream a file encoded in speex frame by frame (like a
phone). I don't want to decode it, nor encode it. I have a speex file on
disk and need to stream it one frame at a time. Speex frame size are
dynamic (silence is compressed, VBR, etc.) so I need the speex
specification to know how to read different frame "types".
I've looked at the speex manual, but it's

Speex on DSPic, violation of license?
The whole deal of using the new BSD license for libraries like Speex's
is to allow companies to release commercial source-closed
applications/devices. This to allow wider spread of the formats.
Unless they are using the command line tools (e.g. encoder), which are
not under BSD but LGPL. In that case, they should provide the source
code for all changes they make to the command line tool,

Speex on DSPic, violation of license?
I was browsing through Microchips' website and came upon their Speex
library. They are charging for it and looks like it is also not open
source.

Opus for ASR - update and questions
For the last couple months, Nuance has performed extensive testing on how the Opus codec performs in the speech recognition task. I'm hoping to publish a full report in the coming months, but until then all I have is a teaser. Opus performed within about 1% of the WER (Word Error Rate) of unencoded audio. This is compared to about 5% for Speex, which was the previous codec of choice. Well

No. Speex is CELP (Code-excited linear prediction), but not ACELP

[PATCH] Replace 'distrofamily' with feature tags
It turns out that the distribution hierarchy is not as reliable concept as you
might think. This patch removes distrofamily again.
Instead of distrofamily, we will add feature tags. This patch adds 2 feature
tags for Linux distributions:
package_format (eg rpm/dpkg)
package_management (eg rhn/yum/apt)
This change is reflected in the output of virt-inspector

[PATCH] Differentiate 'distro' and 'distrofamily' in Sys::Guestfs::Lib
Change distro in the output formally known as virt-inspector to reflect the
actual distro. Possible values are now: fedora, rhel, centos, scientific,
debian.
Add new distrofamily entry which is one of: redhat, debian. Currently all
distros except 'debian' are in the redhat family.
This allows you to, for example, select a RHEL/CentOS/Scientific Linux specific
kernel for installation

Speex for sampling freq >48KHz
Hi,
I chose speex initially because i had some work in VQ on speex i.e. modifying split VQ to GMM based parametric VQ and I thought If I train the GMM based VQ codebooks with audio signal and then do audio coding with speex, I probably get a better(smaller) residual signal even with speex. But I couldnt get that.
I was trying to get a lossless bitstream by MUXing the speex-bitstream and the

pre-processing for audio quality
I've never tried Skype, but I think it can be made to use wideband (16
kHz) encoding, which would explain why you say it sounds clearer. You
can do the same with Speex too. As for the preprocessor, what it could
give you is to remove the background noise and/or adjust the gain.

Enabling Speex VBR for VoIP
I have two questions:
1. ?I would like to enable VBR with the Speex codec for VoIP
communications. Is this setting made within VoIP clients themselves or
is it a setting that must be changed on the specific version of Speex
(for example, via command line)?
2. If not, is there any way to create RTP packets via the Speex command
line? (The goal is to view the lengths of the packets created by
