narrowband embedded in wideband
Is there any way to access only the narrowband portion of a wideband stream? I'd like to be able to encode the audio only once, but allow members in a conference to have some rough selection of bandwidth, and allow them to move to a lower-bitrate stream if there is a need to do so. Thanks, Matthias -- Matthias Granberry matthias@utdallas.edu (469) 371-0596 --- >8 ---- List archives:

narrowband embedded in wideband
It looks like I'll need to go further into the guts of speex to do this. I do, however, see some lines in nb_celp.c/nb_decode() that look interesting. I guess I'll play with it. I doubt that it will be terribly clean, though. Jean-Marc: Take a look at line 1195 in nb_celp.c (CVS). It reads "speex_warning ("More than to wideband layers found: corrupted

ultra wide band packet questions
Hi Jean Marc and List, So I have started finally fiddling around with Ultra-wideband mode. It appears to be very similar in operation to Wide mode, except that when peering into the packet structure it looks like (and these are kind of questions as much as statements here): 1. update rate 0 is not used in UWB- only 1-4? 2. The total bits used for each UWB update rate seem to be as follows:

uwb bitrates
Hello I just wrote a little application using speex. I am compressing and packing singel frames to transmit them. Now I read in the manual, that it's possible to achieve higher bit rates by packing more than one frames at once. Unfortunately there is no table included at the manual, that shows the "real" bitrates of ultra wide band mode. So my question is: Can someone provide that

Speex 1.0.1 is out
Hi everyone, I just released Speex version 1.0.1 with a major bugfix to the wideband mode. It's highly recommended for people using wideband Speex to upgrade. Also, since the old encoder and decoder had the bug, you may notice that files encoded with 1.0 have a lower quality when decoded with 1.0.1. For that reason, re-encoding might be a good idea. Note that narrowband is not affected by

frame size
Hi, Can someone please tell me how should I go about changing the frame size which is hardcoded to 160 for NB and WB and 320 for UWB. For NB speech(8KHz) the framesize of 160 is 20ms frame but for WB and UWB its 10ms. What are the parameters being affected by simply changing the framesize and sub-frame size in "modes.c" How to change the buffer size and how its affected. can we have a

Manual scratch allocation : memory usage doubt
Hi, I am currently encoding 32 Khz/Qual-10/UWB encode mode, with MANUAL_ALLOC enabled ( similar to the c5x/c6x configuration). In file sb_celp.c, I noticed the scratch memory grow during recursive (UWB -> WB) calls to 'sb_encode'. 1. 'stack' was not tracked (with 'tmp_stack' as done at other palaces) after/before - auto-correlation/Levinson-Durbin scope (~line

Noisy sound quality with Blackfin in WB-mode
Hello all, I'm testing the Speex codec for my diploma thesis on a BF-533 Blackfin under uCLinux (2005R3 RC3 release). I successfully compiled the Speex (1.1.11-svn) and I can encode/decode wav-files on my STAMP-board using the speexenc/speexdec sample apps. But I encountered that the decoded file sounds strange/noisy, when compiling with "--enable-blackfin-asm" +

converting unsigned short sample to signed short sample
Thanks a lot for replying, The question now is , after subtracting 32767 from each unsigned sample, will the new signed samples represent the same original voice ? ???? For explanation, assume "Hi" is said in 8000 unsigned sample ,if i subtract 32767 from each sample and play the resulting 8000 sample as signed PCM samples, will they be "Hi" ?! Forgive me about my questions ,

Re: One bug in the SVN and rtp wrapper issue
if the new draft in the manual is used. I don't find how to tell the decoder which mode(NB/WB/UWB) is used in the encoder. The RTP header don't contain the mode field and I don't find the mode information in the coded frame either. Does this mean we have to use NB decoder in all cases? Encoding mode
Hello, In the internet draft describing the SDP parameters for speex I find this: mode: Speex encoding mode. Can be {1,2,3,4,5,6,any} defaults to 3 in narrowband, 6 in wide and ultra-wide. In the documentation I can only find the following request: SPEEX_SET_MODE There is no description though what this request does. I think the mode somehow maps to the bitrate, but I

Chopping off the wideband?
If I encode something in ultra-wideband, can I decode it in wideband by chopping off bytes in every frame? speed and memory
hello, i switched to use the encoder.processData() and encoder.getProcessedData() of jspeex. however it looks to me like a memory leak ... memory usage is increasing very fast and there is no visible stop ... after about five minutes java.lang.OutOfMemory occurs. I think it must be the jspeex component, because before i added jspeex to my app usage was constant at about 5mb. is it possible

wideband bitrates
Hi, I found this list of Speex bitrates in the mail archive. http://www.xiph.org/archives/speex-dev/200306/0004.html Can somebody confirm that this list is correct? I am wondering about the following: - On the Speex website it says: "Speex is based on CELP and is designed to compress voice at bitrates ranging from 2 to 44 kbps." while the bitrates listed here are e.g. 84400 for

Re: Sending speex over a network
Hi All, In sampleenc.c and sampledec.c, if I change the FRAME_SIZE to any other value, I get very garbled speech. Can anyone tell me if I need to set something else if I would like to change the frame size ? Thanks -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
