preprocessor VAD only rocognize between silence and not silence
Hello,
in my project im using speex 1.2rc1 and the preprocessor VAD seems to
only separate complete silence from not complete silence frames.
The Speex Manual, you can read "The voice activity detector (VAD)
provided by the preprocessor is more advanced than the one directly
provided in the codec."
but if you go to the source code in preprocess.c line 995 "/* FIXME:

DTX mode using preprocessor?
Could a method be added to use the VAD from the preprocessor to send the
packet with the 'dtx_enable' flag in it, so the decoder on the other end
knows it's in dtx mode? (and SPEEX_GET_DTX_STATUS returns 1)
At the moment, I can hack around it by doing something like:
if (VAD for prev frame && ! VAD for this frame) {
iArg = 0;

speex_encode_int performance iphone4 + iOS5
Hi,I'm having performance issues encoding with speex on an iphone4 + iOS5. The same code yields excellent results on iPad2 + iOS5, Mac OS X 10.6 as well as Windows 7. The call to speex_encode_int is takes 0.0065 to complete. Because encoding is so latent the receiver incurs underruns.
Here is my speex setup:
? ? unsigned val = 0;
? ? /**? ? ?* Initialize the encoder in narrow band mode.? ?

how to improve the voice quality (run speex on ADSP-BF533)
I bought a ADSP-BF533-EZkit-LITE V2.1 to develop a speech codec application using SPEEX. I have tested SpeexEcho project from both BlackfinSDK-Rel201 and BlackfinSDK-Rel310.
When disabling SPEEX processing, i.e. using PASS-THROUGH mode, the output voice is ok, which is exactly as the input voice. However, when enabling SPEEX processing, the output is bad, no matter how to set the parameters in

i need your opinion of my encoded file in ipaq 1940
Hi,
I encoded file in a ipaq 1940, pocket pc 2003, processor Samsung
s3c241(similar to ARM), 266 Mhz. I would like to know your opinion for the
quality output if this is right to entered parameters.
File original: http://padawan.ing.puc.cl/chavezorig.wav
File encoded: http://padawan.ing.puc.cl/chavezq1.wav
The parameters for encoded are:
state = speex_encoder_init(&speex_nb_mode);
int tmp=0;

What establishes "average" bitrate in Variable Bitrate (VBR) Mode?

Try:
speex_encoder_ctl(pSpeexEncoder, SPEEX_SET_ABR, &desiredRate);

preprocessor VAD only rocognize between silence andnot silence
Jesus,
Unfortunately, FFT and magic algorithms don't work (yet?). You
might want to try this if you're not satisfied with Speex VAD:
http://lists.xiph.org/pipermail/speex-dev/2008-August/006860.html
It won't perform any miracles, but I think it works pretty well
and is easy to tweak.

Speex configuration
Hi,
I'm trying to cover all Speex configuration options to set
quality/mode/bitrate
in my application and I was wondering if the following all makes sense:
- abr_bitrate
- use average bitrate and set it using bitrate parameter
- SPEEX_SET_ABR
- cbr_bitrate
- use constant bitrate and set it using bitrate parameter
- SPEEX_SET_BITRATE
- cbr_mode
- use constant bitrate and

This is not a problem, its a feature. A tone is not voice. VAD should
suppress it.

Problems with stereo data
Hi all,
I have a problem when I am encoding (or decoding) stereo audio.
With mono data, things are fine and everything works without any problems.
When I try to decode stereo data, all I get is a static sound - similar to that of a radio not tuned to any specific station. I wonder what might be wrong?
Below is the code, first, of the encoder and next that of the decoder. Any information or

voice sound like robot voice :)
hy,
here is my speex encoder/decoder .. the sampleRate i use is 16000 and
quality,complexity are at 5.
can someone take a look in to the code and see if there is something that is
making that robot voice
here is a link to colored and numbered code, same as below

Mumble gamers' VOIP server (murmur)
I was unable to build the whole Mumble system on CentOS but it's available
for Fedora Development. I just wanted the server part on my headless
server, and a static build is available from the Mumble project on
Sourceforge. So I grabbed the Mumble SRPM from Fedora Development, the
static build from Sourceforge, and stripped the spec file down to the
minimum needed to just install the

My spa has a mind of its own
I have a Sipura SPA-841.
It's developed a nasty habit. At random times, it likes to dial my cell
phone voicemail number and play my messages to anybody who happens to be
within earshot.
Any clues where to look at what's going on? My voice mail number
(extension 220 in my dialplan) is the only number being dialed.
When this happens, show channels looks like this:

Bounty offer
Hello there!
our company (e-learning) is trying to roll out Mumble for our users. The
quality is awesome but setting up the program is a pain for our users and
we'd like to improve that for our users and for Mumble users in general.
The main issue our users have is with voice detection. Speaking with
Mumble's community they informed me
