Speex memory usage?
> ok, that is not good for my plans... > Is there any thing in the the 8kB of RAM that is always the same (lookup > table etc.) or did you already think of that? I told you the RAM requirements. The lookup tables are already counted as ROM. Basically, just one decoded frame already takes 320 bytes. Add the excitation memory and you've already blown the budget. > I'm curios

Validation with Aggregation
ActiveRecord supports composed_of for value objects which is fantastic but one thing that it doesn''t seem to support (or at least I am unable to find any documentation for) validation of the value objects. For example, given the following: class Message < ActiveRecord::Base composed_of :sender, :class_name => ''EmailAddress'' composed_of :recipient,

What is the most efficient way to split a table into 2 groups?
I have the following: @lot = Lot.find(params[:id]) part_nums = Part.all(:conditions => ["id <> ?", @lot.part.id]) I guess I should mention that Lot :belongs_to => :part I was looking at the log following the execution of these two statements and I saw something like this: Lot Load (0.4ms) SELECT * FROM "lots" WHERE ("lots"."id" = 13) Part

RoR - getting started with database relations
Hey everyone... I''m just getting my feet wet with relational databases using RoR models. The software I''m putting together relies on car parts. Originally I had the database set up as follows create_table :parts do |t| t.column :year, :string t.column :make, :string t.column :model, :string . . . end However, I now realize it''s much better to do it using

how to HABTM with STI ??
Hello all This is my first post so excuse the basic question. (and any repeats I just got an email saying this post was too big so I have re-submitted a smaller version) I was following the thread on http://lists.rubyonrails.org/pipermail/rails/2006-May/038988.html regarding the STI on HABTM for RoR. I have a very similar problem and was hoping for some help. I have the

Sampling Rate
Kirk, Speex was designed for 8kHz, 16kHz, and 32kHz sample rates. If you don't use one of these sample rates, you'll be messing up important assumptions deep within the codec. Why these sample rates? It's telecommunications tradition, rather than PC audio tradition. If you want an efficient and high quality format for voice chat, try 16kHz with VBR quality 6. You should see

Resample UltraWideBand to NarrowBand
Hi List, Now I will send to you more specific what I am trying to do. I have one Asterisk Channel where receives Midia Frames in the codecs format: Speex UltraWideBand and Speex NarrowBand. When I use Speex NarrowBand the Asterisk is able to convert this frame to G711. But when I use Speex UltraWideBand the Asterisk don't convert it. Then I need in my Asterisk Channel Source include the Speex

wav instead of gsm for vm-sounds?
Is there a way to get * to use wav files instead of gsm files for the voicemail, agents, and queues applications? Gsm does not give all the quality we would like to have, and we use no low bit rate codecs.

Compact SSH?
I am looking for a micro ssh server/client implementation. This implementation would have to be small enough to run on microprocessors. e.g. systems with <512KB memory and ~20Mhz 8bit processors - like a Rabbit or a PIC. I have looked around but have not found anything suitable. Does anyone have a recommendataion? Thanks in advance. Thomas DuBuisson

speex on Dell Axim X51v
Hi, Sorry to be posting about a subject that may have already been answered. If so, please point me in the right direction. I'm developing a dictation application on the Dell Axim (Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC). A key requirement of the application is the best possible sampling rate as the audio goes into a speech reco system. So, I've set up my wrapper around libspeex to capture audio

AEC troubleshooting
First of all, thank you for your input Tim. That is very helpful. I would love to hear from other people with experience of AEC and Speex. I guess I have to split my question into to parts now. 1. Is it a fact that using the windows multimedia API (wave audio) for audio capture and playback makes it impossible to do echo cancellation with Speex AEC or other EC method due to inprecise timing? I

How to get podcasters to adopt Speex?
This is a really good point, and definitely a recurring theme on this mailing list. :) I wonder, what are some better options for handling this issue, other than to keep saying "just use 8/16/32kHz"? - Extend Speex to support other sample rates (seems unlikely..?) - Integrate a resampling algorithm into libspeex - Maintain a list of recommended resampling libraries that work well

mid stream sample rate changes
Hi All. Does Opus support mid-steam sample rate changes? For example if I have an audio stream which consists of 1 minute of 8Khz audio, then 10 seconds of 32Khz audio, then 2 minutes of 8Khz audio, can this be encoded in a single Opus stream which the decoder will understand? If not, are there any plans for implementing this? Cheers Philip

Recommended GUI for Speex
Hi all, I have recently added Speex support to my app (http://sbooth.org/Max/) and am in the process of creating a GUI for the user to control the codec parameters. I am new to Speex and as such I am not really sure which parameters are more important than others, and deserve prominent placement, etc. Is there a recommended GUI for people to follow or use as an example? thanks for your reply, could you explain why 44.1kHz is *not* recommended with SPEEX ?
