changing group for root
Hello All, The changing of group for the root results in the following message with OpenSSH 3.9p1 "permanently_set_uid: was able to restore old [e]gid" The following change in uidswap.c fixes me the problem. /* Try restoration of GID if changed (test clearing of saved gid) */ - if (old_gid != pw->pw_gid && + if(getgid() != pw->pw_gid && (setgid(old_gid)

OpenSSH fips compliance
Hello All, Im using OpenSSH 4.2p1 statically linked with OpenSSL 0.9.7i. It looks now that a fips certified OpenSSL is now available at http://www.openssl.org/source/OpenSSL-fips-1.0.tar.gz . I like to know of any patches applicable for OpenSSH versions to make it fips compliant. Is there any idea for OpenSSH core team to make OpenSSH as fips compliant? What amount of work it needs at this

Trouble in decoding speex on PC
Hi, I am trying to develop a command line utility on PC side which will decode the encoded speex file without any header - ie. raw speex encoded data. I downloaded the speex-1.2rc1 version and used the testenc.c under libspeex library. Just to make sure that things are working fine, encoded a .raw audio file and could get the .bit and decoded audio raw file which was validated by using a raw to

OpenSSH-39 not sending syslog msges to proper files
Hello All, My testing of OpenSSH-39 compiled with tcp_wrappers in hpux 11.11 and hpux 11.23 points that sshd is NOT sending the syslog details properly to specified files. This happens when I set the syslogfacility as local7 and Log Level as INFO for sshd. However OpenSSH -38 works correctly for the same setting. I denied a host in /etc/hosts.deny and sshd should send a message "refused

Pam module leaks information
Hello All, Im using OpenSSH 4.1 with a proprietary pam module. This module does allow or deny access to the accound based on a policy file settings. Now if I deny the access to an account and attempt to connect to the sshd server for that account with valid password, it quickly returns to next prompt. When I try it with invalid password, it took some time to return to next prompt. Im wondering if

Permission denied message and leak with it
Hello All, I am using OpenSSH 4.x versions. If I try to ssh to a system with a user account and if all my auth methods fails, the client side gets the following message. Permission denied (publickey,password,keyboard-interactive). This looks like an information leak, where a malicious user can detect all the allowed authmethods on the server system. I would like to know if there are some

Binary compatibility problem in OpenSSH from OpenSSL mailing list
Hello All, There seems to be a binary compatibility problem with OpenSSL and OpenSSH 4.2p1. The details can be found at http://www.mail-archive.com/openssl-users at openssl.org/msg41869.html . The discussion is closed with pointing a problem in key.c in OpenSSH and corresponding thread is at http://www.mail-archive.com/openssl-users at openssl.org/msg41878.html I would like to know the

last command shows entries for denied logins
Hello All, Im using OpenSSH 4.2p1. Suppose I disable non-root logins to my system through /etc/nologin file, SSH writes an entry for the non-root user in wtmp file. This is because the writing in wtmp file happens in parent process where checking of nologin file happens in the child one. I like to know whether we should put an entry in wtmp file for such denied logins. Any comments will be

OpenSSH 4.0 p1 and zlib vulnerability
Hi, Im using OpenSSH 4.0 p1 linked with zlib version less then 1.2.2 in a number of systems. These are all production systems where I can't upgrade the service. I have a question that if I disable the compression by setting "compression no" in sshd_config, will I be able to overcome the Buffer overflow vulnerability in zlib. I just glanced through the code and it seems sshd is

HostKey checking and DNS finger print verification
Hello All, I have a client-server setup with about 100 nodes. We often install the OS and this results in change of host keys in our server. This necessiates the need to update all known_hosts files in the client machines. Im using the VerifyHostKeyDNS option in the client side where the DNS is updated with new finger print each time we change the host key. But still the SSH client verifies

Deleting root credentials
Hello All, I'm using OpenSSH 4.3 compiled with PAM support. Im using a proprietary PAM module for my Authentication. When the root user logs out, it throws a message "pam_setcred : Pemission denied" in syslog. The PAM engineer told me that the module can't delete root users credentials. Instead he is asking me to skip the call pam_setcred() in sshpam_cleanup() in auth-pam.c

Is it possible to avoid PAM calls for key based Auth methods
Hello All, Im using OpenSSH-3.9p1 configured for PAM,krb etc.. When I use Key based auth methods such as Public key, gssapi etc, this skips the pam_authenticate() call and directly calls pam_acct_mgmt(). This results in a failed attempt with few of my own PAM modules. Is there any way to implement this facility to be controlled by a directive in sshd_config. I mean PAM calls should not be

[LLVMdev] Runtime & idle time reoptimizer questions
Hello everybody, I would like to know more about runtime & idle time reoptimizer mentioned in the powerpoint presentations about LLVM. Which tool in the LLVM toolchain is responsible for this? Where I can find more details on how reoptimizer is implemented? If someone can let me know any doc or specific source code file to look at, it would be helpful. I have also seen a similar post by

Encode and decode using speex
Hi, I am new to speex and I am trying to use the sample program given in the speex document. I have made some modification to that sample, so that input can be read from a file and the output can be re-directed to the file. I tried to encode an audio file using the sampleenc and decode the same by sampledec.c I am able to do it successfully, but when i try to play the output file from the

Is there a version of Speex like Fraunhofer MP3 codec?
In AudioGrabber, you have the option to set up an external encoder, you don't only have the initial options available. Obtain the win32 compile of speexenc from the speex download page and configure it as an external encoder.
