DTMF not being heard correctly by far end conference system
Hi there
I have two different asterisk systems (both 1.4) whose dtmf tones are not being picked up by a particular conference system users are dialling into. I can call myself with the phones and hear the tones, but I am guessing perhaps they are too short or somehow different. I have looked and looked but can't nail down the reason. I don't believe this is a general issue, rather some

installing Adobe Audition creates no exe file...
I'm running Wine 1.1.10, configured as Windows XP, and a version of Ubuntu from four days ago. The appDB says that Adobe Audition 2.0 works fine (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=13422), but I haven't had any success yet. No exe file was installed, audition doesn't show up in wine's list of installed programs, and there's just generally no way to

Adobe Audition and Wine
Hi, I've got OpenSuSE Linux 11 KDE 3.5.10.33.2 and kernel-pae 2.6.25.18-0.2-i.686 and Wine 1.1.13
Now I'm trying to install Adobe Audition (I tried several other programs for Linux, but they can't convince me due to limitations, that is, not those possibilities like Adobe Audition).
I read so many "stories" on the internet that Adobe Audition could work thru Wine under Linux,

FLAC plug-in for Adobe Audition
Has anybody found the plug-in for Adobe Audition (formerly Cool Edit)
decodes just fine, but doesn't seem to compress?
I've tried saving .wav files to the compressed FLAC format in Adobe Audition
& they appear to be the same size as the uncompressed .wav. The FLAC
frontend works perfectly for me, & I can compress through Exact Audio Copy
successfully... just not in Audition.

Upgrade Problems
I had a RH7.3 system.
I upgraded via Centos5.3 CDs
I upgraded this system further via Yum.
Current problems:
1: nvidia GF6800 Xtreme video card has no kernel module, so I have
command-line only.
2: Building a kernel module requires downloading (at least parts) of the
kernel; there is no clear label "yum install
kernel-module-build-enabler"
3: Downloading the whole source tree (yum

USB external HDD error messages
Hi - relatively inexperienced user here. I installed CentOS 5.2
yesterday (http install via a mirror, worked brilliantly), as well as a
new Seagate 1Tb USB external HDD (from the new Xtreme line), for
backup/media storage.
Using fdisk I put two primary partitions on the Seagate, /dev/sde1 and
/dev/sde2 (roughly half the drive each). Then I used mkfs.ext3 on both
to create ext3 filesystems

RubyCorner a meeting place for the Ruby and Rails blogging community
After spending some of our spare time (a software developer having
"spare time"? really?) writing unit and functional tests, RubyCorner
is going live: A blog directory focused on the Ruby language, Rails
and any other Ruby related project.
We like to think about RubyCorner as a "meeting place" for the
community, also as a "focal point" where the people new to

getting a Creative Soundblaster card to work
I just got a Creative Soundblaster X-fi Xtreme Audio card for my notebook.
The card is recognized automatically in Ubuntu, and in Preferences/Sound I set the default to ALC861VD Analog, which is the mixer.
But the option doesn't come up under winecfg.
And my application (Dragon NaturallySpeaking) doesn't see it.
Any suggestions?

Wavelet audio codec by Adapted Wave Tech.
Following a post on vqf.com forum, I found out that some company called
Adapted Wave Technology is ready to release its audio codec based on
wavelets. They say that this wavelet-based codec is superior to MDCT codecs
by 30-50%.
One sentence caught my attention: "Adapted Wave Technologies holds exclusive
patent rights for applying wavelet packets to audio applications." - sounds

udial.wav problem
I was doing some testing with RC2 and I noticed that RC2 doesn't
encode past 19kHz with this clip (-b256 and -b350). There are no
problems with this clip like it was before, but this clip contains
signal past 19kHz which is audible as a faint high-frequency hiss -
and that hiss is gone in the encoded file since RC2 cuts off at 19kHz.
I think that -b256 and -b350 should encode at least up to

No sound in Wine under OSS after update.
Hey guys,
Under Wine v1.1.14, my audio worked perfectly in World of Warcraft using the aoss wrapper. Today I updated to Wine v1.1.15 and to my surprise... No audio under OSS. ALSA works just fine except for the 2 second sound delay on everything (very annoying known issue). I've tried swapping sound cards, increasing my sound buffer size, reverting back to Wine 1.1.14, and reinstalling my

Can't access shares from Windows Clients (Win2003 AD & Samba3 as Member Server)
This is my first venture into the world of Samba 3. I have a Win2003 AD
domain in native mode (no Win2000, NT4 domain controllers.)
My samba server successfully joined the domain. The problem I'm having is
when I try to access shares on the samba server from a windows client, I get
a Username/Password prompt. Giving my AD username/password doesn't work.
Tried all variations of my

Dolby Begins Licensing AAC Consumer Encoder Implementation
Well, in the world of audio compression it's never boring... :-)
Full press release from Dolby:
http://www.aac-audio.com/press/aac.pr.0104.AACencoder.html
My comments:
Looks like Dolby will start licensing AAC encoder that
targets consumers and the products they use like CD
rippers, jukebox players, etc. Also, it looks like that
this encoder will be Low Complexity AAC ("The AAC

mp3PRO encoder/decoder demo available
If anyone is interested, mp3PRO demo is available on
Coding Technologies web site: http://www.codingtechnologies.de/
Demo is a Win32 encoder/player, and it is limited to 64kbps
only. I did a quick test, and it really sounds good at 64kbps
(but not as good as 128kbps - we all know that was hype).
SBR (Spectral Band Replication) seems to be working pretty well.
Of course SBR is only used if you

Vorbis and Joint Stereo.
Hi,
I've just read this on Vorbis Xtreme site:
"11. YOU SAY THAT OGG VORBIS IS PATENT-FREE, BUT I SAW A PATENT NAMED
'JOINT-STEREO' ON FRAUNHOFER'S PATENT LIST? SO OGG VORBIS ACTUALLY ISN'T
PATENT-FREE SINCE IT ALSO USES JOINT-STEREO?
No. You can't judge on a patent just by looking at its name - what's
'inside' is what matters. So if the name of the
