hi! I'm using the speex library in my RTP project (i'm using GNU ccRTP library). My program creates and destroys speex objects everytime a new RTP connection is made. But, when i test it with a client which create a connection to it one after another, the free memory decrease constantly to the point where the programs execution crash because not more free memory. It seems like the

Echo cancellation performance and metalic noise
Hi, I use speex1.1.10 [June 10, 2005]in my VoIP application and it works very good for me. But sometimes I get loud metalic noise. Turning off EC, disappears the noise right away. I use EC with denoiser ON, AGC OFF, echo tail 400 ms. Has anyone experienced this? Since Speex1.1.11 has improvement for EC, I tried with the latest release [Speex1.1.12, which has fixed point EC]. But in my test, EC

Preprocessing and Echo Cancellation Notes.
First, I'd just like to thank the Speex community, and Jean-Marc especially, for their great work. I'm developing a VoIP library (which uses IAX, the asterisk protocol) as the network protocol. I've been putting off integrating Speex for a while, as things have been working pretty well so far with GSM. (for those interested, the code is at iaxclient.sourceforge.net). However,

More Speex (pre-processing) Options
Tom, You can look in my archives for my posts on this topic, but what I've found is that the echo canceller works to some extent, but if you're also using the other preprocessing (which you'd definitely need to do _after_ ec, otherwise ec probably won't work at all), the AGC function ends up reversing the effect of ec. That is, while ec reduces the echo, it doesn't

More Speex (pre-processing) Options
I don't think the echo canceller works yet. The best I could get it to do is trash my audio. If it does work, some sample code demonstrating its use would be really appreciated... Here is what Jean-Marc has said about it in the past: > What should I use for a filter length for speex_echo_state_init()? "Well, it depends on your problem. The filter length represents the maximum

speexenc/speexdec doubles file size
this is not really a development question, but i didn't find another mailing list to ask it. any idea why size of wav file doubles when it is encoded to speex and back to wav: $ ls -ls testi.wav 40 -rw-r--r-- 1 foo foo 40674 May 4 14:38 testi.wav $ speexenc --denoise --agc --quality 10 testi.wav testi.spx Encoding 8000 Hz audio using narrowband mode (mono) $ ls -ls testi.spx 20

Echo cancellation Question?
Hi, I use speex 1.1.12 in my program, but I found a strange thing about Echo canceller. That is, I'll hear an explosion in a certain frequency inputing. And I use the echo canceller in 44100Hz sample rate, disable AGC and Denoise. Can you tell me what's wrong with me? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

More Speex (pre-processing) Options
Hi, So I have had a chance to delve deeper into the new pre-processing code- I was also able to get VAD, AGC, Denoising, etc working inside of the current release candidate (1.0.3). For some reason, the 1.1.2 release didn't properly encode/decode in our system (on windows) and I haven't had time to determine why. In any case, all of the features jointly work very well- great job! I

speex documentation
I believe there is a documentation error regarding speex_preprocess_ctl(preprocess_state, request, ptr); The manual states: SPEEX_PREPROCESS_SET_DENOISE Turns denoising on(1) or off(2) SPEEX_PREPROCESS_SET_AGC Turns automatic gain control (AGC) on(1) or off(2) I noticed that setting a value of 0 turns the setting off. Setting a value of 1 or 2 turns the setting on. While I do think 1 and 0 is more

General pre-processing prior to feeding sound to speex.
Hi, I have speex running as a part of a voice conferencing app. Well, one under development anyway. I'm running VBR at quality 3 and get a "hissy-squelchy" background noise. This is fine, kinda, because the internal microphone in the laptop picks up hiss, the sound of the (actually very quiet) hard drive and generally speaking is of less than exemplary quality. To help

noise when passing trougth speex_preprocess
Hi all, as in subject, speex_preprocess inject noise in my data. Someone can help ? Here's the way that i'm using: #define NN 160 /* 20msec di audio */ #define AUDIO_SAMPLERATE 8000 spx_int16_t TEMP_Buffer[NN]; speex_pp_state = speex_preprocess_state_init(NN,AUDIO_SAMPLERATE); c = denoise; speex_preprocess_ctl(speex_pp_state, SPEEX_PREPROCESS_SET_DENOISE,&c); c = agc;

VAD with speex_preprocess()
speex_preprocess() isn't covered in the manual, is it? But, it's very easy to use. If it returns non-zero, voice was detected. More Speex (pre-processing) Options
This is only remotely related: just out of curiosity, does speex_preprocess work very well for you ? It only works to certain extend for me, and does not seem to completely remove noise from sound card. Even if you unplug the microphone, it still could not get rid of the noise. Any idea how it could be totally eliminated ? <p>Thanks <p><p>-----Original Message----- From: Tom

Regarding problem with encoding / decoding
Hi, Tank you for your reply. I have tried the sample programs given the manual and done encoding and decoding a wave file. That is working fine. I have already read the manual and API reference. But this problem did not occured with the wave file encoding/decoding. While capturing the data from MIC and encoding/decoding is giving this problem. Thanks and Regards, Vijender Reddy, -----

pre-processor's residual echo suppression and AEC order
Hi, Arun and me are working on a echo-canceler module for pulseaudio build around speex. When using the preprocessor's echo filter, specifically in combination with denoise and AGC, it's unclear whether these have to run before or after the AEC. Right now we've got one instance of speex_preprocessor doing AGC and denoise running before the echo canceler; and a second for echo

Some Speex AGC Questions
I'm attempting to use speex preprocess for automatic gain control in an application I'm working on and could use some help. I'm using Opus as my codec. In order to keep the number of packets down, I'm using 60msec frames. I'm sampling at 48KHz as is recommended for Opus. So, the frame length is 2880 samples and the sampling rate is 48000. The source of the data is a

speex DTX chore
hi there, I am new to mailing list so excuse me if I don't obey to the 'netiquette'. i am writing voice chat and speex is in the root of it. i write it in Java and use JNI to link with 'C'-based Speex 1.2beta. [I know of JSpeex but there are not implemented some features] recently i decided to use DTX feature of speex as well. the code follows. The problem is that no matter

voice activity detection
Hello, I am wondering whether Speex's voice activity detection mechanism can be used independently of encoding and decoding speech, and how reliable it is in general. I need this kind of functionality for a project I am working on, and I was wondering if Speex provides it in a ready-to-use fashion, or if it requires modification of the source code. If so, I would be glad to consider doing

Preprocessor denoise. Does it work?
There are many ways to implement a VAD. What you described is actually perfectly equivalent to the most trivial (and least robust) VAD algorithm.
