Speex settings and jitter
Hi,
Is there are document where the interaction between all the configuration
options of speex is explained?
Speex seems to have CBR, VBR and ABR. You can also use SPEEX_SET_QUALITY
(SPEEX_SET_VBR_QUALITY) and SPEEX_SET_BITRATE which I suppose can't be set
at the same time. Is there a list of possible combinations somewhere?
I also have another question related to jitter. To minimize jitter,

Should Speex VBR Introduce Distortion?
Hi All,
I've run into a small hiccup in encoding my audios with Speex. When I
encode audience laughter and applause with 'speexenc' (version 1.0.1),
the result is quite acceptable... until I enable VBR. Then it distorts
horribly.
My understanding of VBR is that it frees the encoder to vary the number
of bits emitted to better maintain the quality requested, and so I would

Speex codec for 8Kbps setting ?
Hi,
I am looking how to setup speex codec in codecs.conf for 8 Kbps and 6 Kbps.
In config file are many parameters for setting.
I don't know what is need to change for narrowbad like 8 Kbps and 6 kbps.
Any suggestion?

Does VAD/DTX work without VBR and Preprocessor
Hello,
I'm try to run speex on some ARM processor.
I'd like to cut away some speex features including VBR, ABR and preprocessor
while still supporting VAD/DTX.
But I've found some puzzles in the source code regarding VAD as below,
1) there are VAD related codes in the source file preprocess.c.
Will VAD still work If I don't use the source file preprocess.c?
2)The speex manual

Does VAD/DTX work without VBR and Preprocessor
Hi Marc,
Thanks for your quick response.
So if VAD is enabled then VBR will be enable although it's a special VBR.
How about take out the VAD code from the VBR and remove the code else?

Frozen upper spectrum in WB VBR CNG
Hi,
I've been using Speex in my voice-over-IP program on Win32, in
wideband (16kHz) mode. I just starting using VBR recently and
have run into something that might be a problem within Speex:
If someone hasn't spoken for a little while, and the bitrate drops
to very low, sometimes the high half of the spectrum becomes frozen
with a looping sound. The bottom half of the spectrum is

Speex on Nokia Symbian S60 phones
It would be very nice to know about some good success without too much
cpu issues on Nokia devices, i tried pjsip.org project on S60 FP1 E65
+200mhz ARM cpu with speex but don't had much luck in using it without
having 100% cpu usage :(
Please let us to know about your testing

DTX in speech
Hello,
I am trying to use the DTX feature of speex to tell if the user is
speaking. I have VBR, DTX and VAD turned on, but the function
speex_encode always returns a non-zero value. It is my understanding
that it should return a zero value when the encoder detects silence?
Could anyone give me any clues to help figure out why this isn't working
for me? I am using the 1.13 version of speex on

Okay, clarification requires less code to be written than a bug. :)

Hi
I apologise if the following message is inappropriate for

can get some help with my problem.

Reg Fixed point Speex Narrow Band decoding
Hi Marc,
I've downloaded the Speex1.2Beta version. In the code still there are some float variables are used for the Narrow band decoding.
In the file "nb_celp.c" .93 is getting multiplied with the GAMMA_SCALING [Line number From - 1341 - 1351]
Can please tell me weather the 1.2Beta version has complete narrow band decoding in fixed point??
Thanking you,

preprocessor VAD only rocognize between silence and not silence
Hello,
in my project im using speex 1.2rc1 and the preprocessor VAD seems to
only separate complete silence from not complete silence frames.
The Speex Manual, you can read "The voice activity detector (VAD)
provided by the preprocessor is more advanced than the one directly
provided in the codec."
but if you go to the source code in preprocess.c line 995 "/* FIXME:

mingw (native gcc for win32) doesn't officially support using gcc 4.0
and 4.1 yet (apparantly there have been some issues), so there are no
binary packages. But if you think it helps, I can compile gcc 4.1 and
give it a shot.

deSolve question
Dear All,
I like to simulate a physiologically based pharmacokinetics model using R
but am having a problem with the daspk routine.
The same problem has been implemented in Berkeley madonna and Winbugs so
that I know that it is working. However, with daspk it is not, and the
numbers are everywhere!
Please see the following and let me know if I am missing something...
Thanks a lot in advance,

rgding VAD
hi,
How do i detect whether there is silence in media using speex?
Is there any API which decides that the audio data only contains
silence?
Basically i will have PCM linear data, I want to know whether it is
complete silence.
Is it that during encoding speex_bits_write will return a lesser
number if the audio at byte_ptr contains silence?
thanx,
Rahul

SpeexEncoder requires 320 samples to process a Frame, not 160
Hi guys
I have tried compiling this attached code, I made all the buffers 320, there is no trace of a 160 buffer, but I get a "
SpeexEncoder requires 320 samples to process a Frame, not 160" error.
Maybe there's something I'm missing, here's my code:

import java.io.FileOutputStream;
