Library split (poll)
Hi everyone,
In the 1.1.x branch, I've kept adding more stuff to libspeex:
preprocessor, AEC, etc. I'm now considering moving all those to a
separate library (libvoip, libspeech, whatever). Anyone on this list has
good reasons I should consider for either splitting or not splitting
libspeex?
Cheers,

Borland C++ Builder 6.0 & Wine
Hi all,
I need to use BCB6 with Wine to develop a software that uses two ocxs
built with MS Visual C++.
I set ole32, oleaut, typelib to native for bcb, else it doesn't start
correclty. After that, BCB start up, I can design the forms, write the
code, but I have two problems that block me:
a) when I press the Execute button, the units are compiled, but the
linker hangs up with all the cpu used

Pdf::Writer and "Replacement Tags"
Having read over the ruby pdf generation (simple reporting) options, I
think Pdf::Writer will do just fine...
..if the following is possible
On page 13 of (the really expansive) ::Writer manual, Replacement Tags
are detailed.
Before I jump into this tomorrow, I''m hoping for some triage sage
advice.
Finally, the question : "Would utilizing Replacement Tags be a suitable

Compress (gzip) a pdf device
I have not found an easy way to compress a file on filesystem.
Especially I'd like to compress a pdf from pdf() function/device. Is it possible to compress It on the flight?
I'd like to do something like:
pdf(gzipconnection())
dev.off()
If It is not possible, how can I create a gzip with the pdf?
Thanks

win32-shortcut problems
Hi all,
I''ve started porting the Win32::Shortcut Perl module over to Ruby. I''ve
done some initial work and committed it to CVS (look under win32utils - I
goofed and made a toplevel dir as well - it''s empty).
Anyway, everything compiles fine, but when I do "s = Shortcut.new" I get a
weird error:
test.rb:11:in `initialize'': undefined method

Protect yourself
Hey all
We are seeing intrusion attempts coming from address 201.47.236.122 today
They were hitting our switches trying to get in. So we blocked them at our
firewall.
Just wanted to put the word out so you all can protect your self.

Installing to other than "/" label
I have a system with Fedora installed on the partition with label "/". Can
I install CentOS on a new empty partition (/dev/cciss/c0d3p1), or do I need
to remove the "/" label on the Fedora partition and change Fedora's fstab
to mount by physical partition? I'd like to keep Fedora as a fall-back OS
until I have CentOS completely up and working.
My Fedora fstab:

Moving Maildir folders
Our office had a user leave. Another user is taking over her duties and needs reference to the
departing user's email. I've copied that entire departed user's Maildir structure to the current
user:
mv olduser/Maildir/.* curuser/Maildir/.olduser
I did change permission and ownership on curuser/Maildir/.olduser to be the target user. I did
not bring over the olduser/Maildir/dovecot*

Hi all,
Am I the only one to have had a totally trouble-free upgrade to 5.2?? I get the
feeling that most everybody seems to have *some* problems...

How to save a model in DB and retrieve It
I'm wondering how to save an object (models like lm, loess, etc) in a DB to retrieve and use it afterwards, an example:
wind_ms <- abs(rnorm(24*30)*4+8)
air_kgm3 <- rnorm(24*30, 0.1)*0.1 + 1.1
wind_dg <- rnorm(24*30) * 360/7
ms <- c(0:25)
kw_mm92 <- c(0,0,0,20,94,205,391,645,979,1375,1795,2000,2040)
kw_mm92 <- c(kw_mm92, rep(2050, length(ms)-length(kw_mm92)))

NFS filesystem recommendations please (and problems with XFS)
Hello all,
I am implementing a new mail server into our environment consisting of
three machines - two Dell Opterons that will act as load balanced
Postfix servers, and a 1.5TB RAID10 NFS server. All three machines are
running CentOS 4.5.
Since the NFS is going to be used for only mail, I was kicking around
the idea to use XFS. I have CentOS installed on an ext3 partition, and
with the

Moving Maildir folders
Hey!! It is now showing the former users' folders at the top level of the current user. Great!
Perhaps dovecot just needed time to "index" the new messages? Anyway, Luigi's suggestion on
moving and renaming the folders apparently worked.
Thanks!!!! --Mark

ARIMA, AR, STEP
Here is my problem:
Autoregressive models are very interesting in forecasting consumptions (eg water, gas etc).
Generally time series of this type have a long history with relatively simple patterns and can be useful to add external regressors for calendar events (holydays, vacations etc).
arima() is a very powerful function but kalman filter is very slow (and I foun difficulties of estimation)

Optimise huge data.frame construction
I have data for different items (ID) in a database.
For each ID I have to get:
- Timestamp of the observation (timestamp);
- numerical value (val) that will be my response variable in some kind of model;
- a variable number of variables in a know set (if value for a specific variable is not present in DB it is 0).
To get to the above mentioned values I have to cycle

FireWire Security issues
Hello,
looking into the issue described in the advisory below I wonder how to
tackle this issues. Primarily
I ask myself
* is there any reason not to filter all physical memory access by default
* what would be the appropriate way to change the filter set? a sysctl?

Suggestions for partition
The recent thread on Anaconda and RAID10 made me start to think about
how to partition a server I'm about to set up. I have two 146GB SCSI
drives on an IBM x3550. It will be used as a build system. As such,
there is no critical data on these systems, as the source code will
be checked out of our source control system, and the build results
are copied to another system. I usually

site home page
Hi,
I have a really dumb qustion, but I can''t find an answer in "Agile Rails" or
any other hand holder. And, it is a difficult topic to search for in
google.
What controller/view is used for the home page of a site? I get how to
create new controllers, but I don''t get at all how to change content on the
home page.
thanks,
matt
