Question from XM Radio
Thanks Jim, that's understood. When I say AMBE isn't working well, I only mean from the audience acceptance point of view. Technically it is fine. It is exactly doing the job we had expected. It's the long standing wish that everyone wants... More for less. We are just seeking a bit of magic that just may not be there. Ideally finding a codec that can perform

Question from XM Radio
Hi, > You can try the Ogg DirectShow filter to get Windows support for Speex: > http://www.illiminable.com/ogg/ if you wait a little longer, I am trying to provide speex support for the ffmpeg project (www.ffmpeg.org). It does encode/decode to/from avi and wav, a support for ogg has not been done, and my question is, should it be necessary? I don't really like ogg in first place..

Question from XM Radio
Hello folks. I understand this is the development email address, but I don't have any others to use, maybe you can help. I'm an engineer at XM Satellite Radio in Washington, DC. I'm scouting for other low bandwidth algorithms for some voice content. Speex looks pretty interesting. My goal is to find a promising codec for 2Kbps. I see the download links on the pages offer

Implementation of a Speex based hardware VOCODER
Hi everyone, I?m a graduate student in a Brazilian Intitute of Technology, and I?m doing some academic research regarding secure voice transmission over phone lines. One of our reserach goals is to implement a hardware vocoder, with low bit rates, and a preferably free algorithm, to be used in this secure voice system. Actually, there is a functional system using a proprietary AMBE

Speex: Open-source, patent-free speech coding
Hi, We would like to announce the first release of the Speex project. Speex (http://speex.sourceforge.net) is an open-source (LGPL), patent-free compression format allowing an alternative to expensive proprietary codecs. Unlike Ogg Vorbis which compresses general audio, Speex is designed especially for speech. For that reason, Speex is meant to be a complement to Vorbis. Since it is specialized

Good Admin tool ?
Hi all, Just wondering what Samba administration tool is the most frequently used ? What tool do admins use daily ? I've tried Cmd line / Samba tools, Swat, Webmin, LAM... and still haven't found a full-featured one and *user-friendly* one... Many Thanks :) Ganael.

XaMp Studio edition won't play XM Radio on Ubuntu 9.04
XaMp studio is the coolest stand-alone player for XM Radio's XM Radio Online service (XMRO). http://xamp.imomo.net/ It installs just fine. It loads just fine and logs into XM Radio and displays the channel list fine too. But when you hit play, it gets a "Stream Error: 1001" error message. I sure would like to get this working. I have converted from Windows XP to Ubuntu and really

Opus vs Speex NB
Hi, I noticed that speex.org has a banner that mentions that Opus is better than Speex in all aspects. The supported bitrate range for Speex seems to be as low as 2kbps though but Opus can only go as low as 6kbps. Is this one aspect where Speex is still preferred? (I understand that it's not a very common scenario though). Thanks, Manpreet. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML

Port Speex to SH3 platform
Hi, I am new to speex and intend to port Speex to an SH3 based Single board Application computer running at ~100 MHz. The application scenario is for intercom kind of an Application. I want to know if the CPU power on the SH3 based SBC running at ~ 100 MHz shall be sufficient for running speex(The compression and decompression interfaces shall be used simultaneously by the application).

[Fwd: Re: Which product to use?]
Dave, I have been interested in some of the same questions that you have been asking. A while back I asked a person at VLSI ( http://www.vlsi.fi/ ) in Finland if they had a product that might work. The exchange of email is included below. In summary, the answer was probably no, but maybe in the future. The VS1005 chip he mentions does not seem to have appeared yet. I currently have a pair

--keep-foreign-metadata question
Not sure if this belongs here or in flac-dev. I am subscribed to both, so flop it over if fits better over there. Looking at the Changelog for FLAC 1.2.1 (17-Sep-2007), it says: "With the new --keep-foreign-metadata in flac, non-audio RIFF and AIFF chunks can be stored in FLAC files and recreated when decoding." Where can I find more detail on what is a

cbq.init
About the cbq.init. Four machines which traffic to limit in same LAN. Is the samething if I put limiting rules to four different files or all to the same file? Like: DEVICE=eth0,10Mbit,1Mbit RATE=64Kbit WEIGHT=6Kbit PRIO=5 RULE=192.168.0.5 RULE=192.168.0.6 RULE=192.168.0.7 RULE=192.168.0.8 OR four equal files with different IPs, Ids and no PARENT rule? What style of ID numbering you use if

streaming silence to Winamp
Hi, I have just integrated libshout2 and libvorbisenc into mserv, my music server (www.mserv.org). It all works well. Thanks for a great product. The problem I have is that when there is a pause between songs of around 10 seconds, Winamp (2.91) decides (due to the 64kbps dropping to a 2kbps stream I guess), that it needs to re-buffer. It fails miserably and generally dumps the connection, or
