SpeexBits Questions
Thanks, it makes more sense to me now. Does speex_bit_read_from also
append in that manner?

problem: The decoded frame is not as the original one
Hi All,
i need your help in determining the problem in the following sample code (taken from speex manual) for fixed point encoding.
i tested encoding a 160 sample frame and then decoding it back But The problem is that the decoded frame is totally different from the original frame(see output below).What is the possible reason for this?.thanks for any help

LIB usage
Hello,
I'm trying to use the speexlib but I just can't do it. I've made just like the
example (on the site) says. Some times I get SIGFAULT. Also, I'm reading the
input_frames from /dev/dsp (directly). What is missing here?
speex_bits_init(&bits);
enc_state = speex_encoder_init(&speex_nb_mode);
speex_encoder_ctl(enc_state, SPEEX_GET_FRAME_SIZE, &frame_size);

input_frame format
The API reference says it is "+-2^16 range."
Which is right? I've yet to successfully encode or decode anything.

input_frame format
/input_frame/ is a /(float *)/ pointing to the beginning of a speech frame
What is the range on the floats in the input_frame that speex_encode()
needs? The library that I'm using to get the sound gives me floats that
are between -1.0 and +1.0.
I was assuming that this is also the case for speex, but I don't see it
documented.
I'm thinking now that maybe this is not the case for

Speex wrapper functions for Visual Basic
Hello,
i want to use speex out of visual basic. So i have written a few wrapper functions in VC++ (v6) wich i can call from VB (v6). But i have problems with the encode and decode functions.
Encode wrapper Function:
I want to copy the value of an single array in VB to a float array in C which can be
encoded. And the output of the encoder have to be unsigned char because in VB its an
byte

encoder/ decoder sharing SpeexBits
>From the sample encoder/ decoder demo in the documentation it seems that I
only have to call speex_bits_reset before encoding a new frame. Is this
still the case if I reuse the SpeexBits to both encode and decode different
streams?
Thanks,

Just getting noise
Alright noted, I changed me code so that the state is created in the
constructor and destroyed in the destructor of the object. However I'm
still getting the same issue although I'm sure that would have bit me
sooner or later.
The new code is as follows.
virtual Enigma::u8* Encode(Enigma::u8* inputBuffer,size_t inputSize,
size_t& outputSize)
{
short *in=(short*)inputBuffer;

hi all,
I'm developing an app to broadcast voice over web. i tried to use speex and
download ver 1.04 documentation and use it to develop encoding and decoding
but after decoding voice is damaged i attach my encode/decode function.

Any tips for speeding up encoding on iPhone?
Hi,
I'm trying to use Speex for real time encoding in an iPhone project but I'm
having latency problems. I appreciate any tips you may provide for speeding
things up.
The recording callback is providing 1024 samples (mono, frequency: 44100 Hz,
of type short) every 23 ms (1024.0 / 44100.0). I'm saving the samples in a
buffer and use them in the encoding thread (set for mode: wide

Just getting noise
I'm completely new to speex and I'm having issues adding it to my
application. I can pass raw PCM and that works fine so I know my
transmission code is fine however when I try to encode/decode using
speex I get noise almost like a whining/buzzing sound. I'm sure it's
and issue in my code but I'm not sure where to start looking other

decoded sample is completely differen from original one
Hi all,
I have just started playing with speex, and come up with the following code, which just encode a frame of 160 shorts, and the decode it.
For some reason the decoded sample is completely different than the original one. is my code wrong? If so what? Or is it a reasonable which depends of values that weren't correctly set?
Thanks,
Andre

Just getting noise
I'm only doing one frame using speex_encode_int greatly simplifies my
code I'm not sure why the sample I was working off of was converting
the shorts to floats then calling the other encode/decode methods.
Based off of your suggestions I tried the following but I get the same
result.
virtual Enigma::u8* Encode(Enigma::u8* inputBuffer,size_t inputSize,
size_t& outputSize)

SPEEX_SET_USER_HANDLER once again
Hi,
Sorry! Marc Gimpel. I wrote it in a false thread before. It was my
first time. :-)
I have to write a small programm which should be able to record speeches
and in addition synchronize the recorded speeches with measuring data.
My idea is to record the speech in the normal way with speex and without
ogg. If a sync message was received, i write a custom in-band messages

How to detect SpeexBits corruption
Hello,
im using speex library on my vo ip project, but some times, after it
works ok, it begins to play noises (like voice hits) decoding the
packets of one source (the others sound ok).
I finally found that reseting SpeexBits and decoder state it solves.
If i cant avoid this problem, i wish to solve when it occours, but ?how
to detect this?
Please, if anyone has experiment this issue i

SpeexBits ...
Hi Marian,
I took a brief look at RFC 5574 and as far as I understand, you can simply do it like this:
SpeexBits b;
speex_encode(state, some320bytePCM1, &b);
speex_encode(state, some320bytePCM2, &b);
After that, get the encoded data with speex_bits_write and put it in your packet.
