file couldn't play after Speex encode and decode
Dear sir,
I've a problem that the .wav file couldn't play after calling "sampleenc
male.wav|sampledec male_speex_15.wav".I found that the new file
male_speex_15.wav is smaller than the original file in size.I implemented
the test on Linux system. The original file male.wav is 96044 bytes, while the
new file male_speex_15.wav is 96000 bytes.I'm eager to know the reason.Thankyou!

Encode and decode using speex
Hi,
I am new to speex and I am trying to use the sample program given in the
speex document.
I have made some modification to that sample, so that input can be read from
a file and the output can be re-directed to the file.
I tried to encode an audio file using the sampleenc and decode the same by
sampledec.c I am able to do it successfully, but when i try to play the
output file from the

Sending speex over a network
Hi All,
I would like to communicate speech over a network compressed using speex.
However, I do not want to communicate a whole Ogg-formatted file. I am
interested in only the speech frames.
I invoked:
speexenc input-file-name - > raw-speech
This, I am thinking gives the speech frames only. To play this back at the
receiving end, do I need to format it into Ogg formatted file before I can

How to use speex?
Hi,
I am a newcomer to speex.
When I use the sampleenc/sampledec programme to have a try of speex, the
encoded and decoded file can not be played in foobar.
But if I use the speexenc.exe/speexdec.exe in the Windows binary tools, the
encoded file can be played well.
Did I misuse something and can anyone provide a simple example for how to use
speex to build my own programme?

Raw files or Wav Files
Hello All,
I have recently started working on SPEEX and thanks to the nice tutorial
and examples, i was able to encode/decode files as per the command line
programs speexenc.c and speexdec.c
I tried the sampleenc/sampledec but, i know its only for the raw data.
My question is what kind of raw data should be used to test them?
Also, is it possible for me to use speex without any of the headers but

Decode win32 encoded files on TI C5x???
I have successfully DECODED speex on TI C5509:
#define TESTENC_BYTES_PER_FRAME 20 /* 8kbps */
#define TESTENC_QUALITY 4 /* 8kbps */
I am trying to generate the files I need with speexenc.exe:
speexenc -n --quality 4 -V male.wav male.spx
But I can't decode the files on C5x.
Yes, I have seen that speexenc.exe adds Ogg header and

There is no such a thing as a "raw Speex format". Also, sampleenc.c and
sampledec.c are good for learning how to use the API, but the compressed
format shouldn't be used in

Using speex (newbie)
Thank you for the answer but i've already read manual and examples and i'm doing same thing
of your code, so, maybe you can give me a hint about the problem i have, that it is for sure in my code. A
question: is it possible that i hear a "tick" because between two frame i call speex_bits_reset? (for this reason if i encode
more than one frame together there is no

Problem with encoding and decoding
I have problem with coding and decoding. I record voice from mic coding

And when I read from file and put it on sound card it's terrible sound.

libspeex sample app?
Hello, is there any sample code that uses libspeex? I wrote an app that uses
it according to the manual, but the encoding does not sound good enough. I
haven't figured out if it's a bug or a configuration. Is there any simple
code that encodes properly?

Raw Speex?
Hi,
I want to take a .wav and generate a bytestream that I can feed direct
to speex_decode(). The speexenc program appears to produce it wrapped up
in an ogg stream, and it doesn't have any sort of "raw" mode. I've tried
hacking on it to remove the ogg parts, but I must have got it wrong, as
my decode dies after decoding 160 bytes (which I believe is one frame)

compatibility issues.
Hi,
I've enocded and decoded a file using speexencexe/speexdec.exe respectively. However when i use the example code to encode a file and use speexdec.exe to decode it; not only do i get a file that is 3kb larger than if i had encoded it with the .exe but also I get a "this doesn't look like a speex file" message, and it is unable to decode it.
I've checked around and it

okay that questioned is answered, thank you.
I am interested in using speex in a VOIP application. do i need to put it in into
the ogg contianer format in order to encode/decode and send it? or will it work
"as is"? if the latter then:

Using speex (newbie)
Hi, i'm using speex in a conferencing application and i have a little problem. I encode single buffer of 320 byte (160 short) and send it to destination where
i play it. The problem is that between frame i hear a "tick" so, if i encode single frames, send it and play it, i heard like to be underwater (because there is a tick 8000/320 times/sec ), if i encode many packet all together

Using speex on ARM7TDMI...
Hi,
I'm evaluating the libspeex library for usage in an embedded platform
based on an ARM7 TDMI micro (the ubiquitous Atmel AT91SAM7S).
In details, I'm trying to use libspeex to encode the audio stream
coming into the micro from an I2S channel and saving the encoded audio
to an SD card (currently in binary format just to test it decoded back
to the I2S channel from the saved file), but

Re: Sending speex over a network
Hi All,
In sampleenc.c and sampledec.c, if I change the FRAME_SIZE to any other
value, I get very garbled speech. Can anyone tell me if I need to set
something else if I would like to change the frame size ?
Thanks

Problems with stereo data
Hi all,
I have a problem when I am encoding (or decoding) stereo audio.
With mono data, things are fine and everything works without any problems.
When I try to decode stereo data, all I get is a static sound - similar to that of a radio not tuned to any specific station. I wonder what might be wrong?
Below is the code, first, of the encoder and next that of the decoder. Any information or

Line-In Encoding
Hello,
I am working on Cirrus ARM-EDB 9302 and using speex-1.1.7. I have
tried encoding a wav file of 7sec long and it took 6 sec to encode it for
default settings of encoder with both files on the RAM.Next I tried
encodeing for 1 minute wav file and it took 2.2min for default settings. Why
is it that as size of input file increases, encoding time also increases
drastically?( I decoded

i need your opinion of my encoded file in ipaq 1940
Hi,
I encoded file in a ipaq 1940, pocket pc 2003, processor Samsung
s3c241(similar to ARM), 266 Mhz. I would like to know your opinion for the
quality output if this is right to entered parameters.
File original: http://padawan.ing.puc.cl/chavezorig.wav
File encoded: http://padawan.ing.puc.cl/chavezq1.wav
The parameters for encoded are:
state = speex_encoder_init(&speex_nb_mode);
int tmp=0;
