Attempting to shrink speex: Are these functions necessary?
Hi,
I am using speex 1.2beta2 on a narrowband 16-bit, 8khz system that has
a severe program space problem and will not fit speex in its normal
operation. In an attempt to shrink speex I placed a breakpoint in every
function and ran a decode and encode and removed the breakpoints that I
hit. in the functions that had a breakpoint that I didn't hit I
commented out those functions (as well as

Attempting to shrink speex: Are these functions necessary?
for the bits init I am using speex_bits_set_bit_buffer and I don't use
the write to or read from because the data is already in the buffer I am
reading from and I am writing to the final buffer so I don't need to
move arrays around.
what part is the vocoder part of the decode?
Thanks for your help!

Attempting to shrink speex: Are these functions necessary?
I'm glad to hear that my data size can be shrunk considerably, however I do not know the minimum values that I would set the static arrays to be. I hate to be a bother but could you tell me the minimum values for these arrays/structures in the state structure? Thanks!

encoding speex, (insanity looming)
Hi All,
I'm very new to speex and in fact handling audio at all, it seems I have run
in to a problem I seem unable to fix. I'm trying to take audio from a microphone
using alsa, then encode it as speex and save to disk. I have been
wondering if it has something to do with endian type, but speexenc and
speexdec works fine.
Currently I have the following setup:

Encoding and decoding problem in speex 1.0.4
Hi,
I am using the speex 1.0.4 library from Windows.
I have posted my problem before but didn't get a solution. I am doing an
VOIP project
in which i am recording sound and streaming it to the peer. I wanted to
encode and decode
wav files that brought me to this site.
I am recording sound in the following format:-
m_WaveFormatEx.wFormatTag = WAVE_FORMAT_PCM;

Newbie - Encoding PCM
Hi all,
i've to encode voice from a voicemodem. I choose speex 1.0.5 for its quality
in voice encoding. I've tried to implement an encoder but unsuccesfully.
Here's my code:
/* ============ SPEEX stream ENCODER

int SPEEX_EncodePCM(struct _IDA_ClientSocket *IDA,char *buffer,unsigned char
*PCM,int num_samples) {

ARM w/ assembly & fixed point crash
I've targeted Speex to run under eCos with Thumb interworking using
arm-elf-gcc 3.3.3
I'd written a small test case to verifiy the operation:
#include <speex/speex.h>
void
speex_test(void)
{
SpeexBits bits;
unsigned int frame_size;
void *enc_state;
float *speex_frame;
cyg_uint64 t1, t2;
int i;
speex_frame = (float *)0x00030000; /* Address of Speex data

Please help, very important (not for fun)
Hi All,
I am a Speex novice but trying to use Speex in my Doctoral thesis. I
installed Speex, was able to encode and decode files. Right now, I want to
write my own cpp program that handle Speex-files. I tried to compile and run
the two sample programs that come with the documentation (after having
insalled the speex-devel-1.0.5-1.i386.rpm). However, when I compile.
gcc sampleenc.cc

Just getting noise
I'm completely new to speex and I'm having issues adding it to my
application. I can pass raw PCM and that works fine so I know my
transmission code is fine however when I try to encode/decode using
speex I get noise almost like a whining/buzzing sound. I'm sure it's
and issue in my code but I'm not sure where to start looking other
then my gut tells me I'm not sizing or

Problem with encoding and decoding
I have problem with coding and decoding. I record voice from mic coding

And when I read from file and put it on sound card it's terrible sound.

tgAudioCodec.zip
I have (finally) posted my Speex wrapper classes. They are at:
http://www.grandgent.com/spx/tgAudioCodec.zip
I followed your recommendations and they worked fine with 1.1.0.
However, I'm still having the same problem with 1.1.7 that I had the
last time I tried to upgrade. I'm using the same code with both versions,
except for calling speex_encode_int instead of speex_encode, and

About reducing noise..
Hello,
When I decode a recoded sound encoded by speex, it has too much noise.
The noise is "slightly" reduced if I set the quality to 10. How do I get
rid of this noise? The code is as follows.
For encoding .
state = speex_encoder_init ( &speex_nb_mode );
tmp = 7;
speex_encoder_ctl ( state, SPEEX_SET_MODE, &tmp);
// set quality
tmp = 10;
speex_encoder_ctl ( state,

Just getting noise
Alright noted, I changed me code so that the state is created in the
constructor and destroyed in the destructor of the object. However I'm
still getting the same issue although I'm sure that would have bit me
sooner or later.
The new code is as follows.
virtual Enigma::u8* Encode(Enigma::u8* inputBuffer,size_t inputSize,
size_t& outputSize)
{
short *in=(short*)inputBuffer;

Speex encoding/decoding producing garbled audio
I'm getting garbled playback with decoded fragments and I'm hoping someone
here can point me in the right direction to correcting the problem.
Essentially I'm capturing audio from the microphone. I stream it over the
net, but for testing purposes with this API I'm just grabbing the whole
chunk and encoding / decoding it right away and then updating the sound
buffer for

Another newbie question on encoding
Hi,
I'm very sorry if those questions are repeated over and over, but I
cannot find a solution on the net.
I try to use speex to encode/decode voice to send over the network.
My doubts are:
1. The Bits_Per_Sample I use, are independent from the speex
encoding/decoding? (So...can I use 8, 16, 24..and so on?)
2. If I have this situation:
SAMPLE RATE.....: 8000
BITS PER SAMPLE.: 16

LIB usage
Hello,
I'm trying to use the speexlib but I just can't do it. I've made just like the
example (on the site) says. Some times I get SIGFAULT. Also, I'm reading the
input_frames from /dev/dsp (directly). What is missing here?
speex_bits_init(&bits);
enc_state = speex_encoder_init(&speex_nb_mode);
speex_encoder_ctl(enc_state, SPEEX_GET_FRAME_SIZE, &frame_size);

speex corrupting input buffer?
It seems that speex (speex 1.0.4 on OSX 10.3.9) is writing over the
input buffer (with what looks like a sine wave). Included below is a
short program that demonstrates the problem. Is this a bug, or am I
doing something wrong? I don't see this behavior mentioned in the docs.
I don't really need the input buffer, but I'm guessing this problem is
related to a high pitched sound
