Some simple questions
I'm being PHBed into a VOIP project, and Speex sprang to mind. Bandwidth is going to be a fairly serious issue for us. With regards to a Speex enc/decoder, I was wondering: Rick Kane and David Siebert have already asked about this, but seem to have gotten very different responses - the former a call to arms, and the latter a "well, if you do it, it'll get done." What's the

Very Cool.........Asterisk Made Wired Magazine
Hi Guys, The article "They've Got Your number" in the Dec 2004 issue of WIRED magazine mentions Asterisk PBX (on p.100). The article is about phone phreaks hijacking cell phones with Bluetooth technology along with spoofing CID to pull some clandestine hacks on the PSTN. Anyhow, Asterisk is mentioned as the PBX of choice for an outfit: Telephreaks.org out of Florida that has built

speex_denoise on non-microphone noise (static ?)
Thanks for the speedy response and detailed, enlightening explanation. Now I understand where the problem is, and will try out your suggestions just to further confirm my conjecture. When I am done, I have to take the foil out, though. This is a product for our customers to use, and although we've got budget for mulffing every sound card we developers use, most likely the company

speex_denoise on non-microphone noise (static ?)
Understand that it's a *guess*. If this fixes or at least betters the situation, you're going to need to find a legit way to insulate these cards, or to switch cards. If it's for customers, I should hope you wouldn't be using enamelled aluminum foil. :D -----Original Message----- From: Tongbiao Li [mailto:tli@viack.com] Sent: Thursday, September 18, 2003 11:20 AM To:

Another miscellaneous question about applicability
Not that I'm going to be doing this, but just out of curiosity, how well would speex perform for singing? I don't know if speex is specialized to the human voice, or the normal low-stress human voice. Does speex' performance change when dealing with shouting, etc? Have you ever tried jazz scat, or anything like that, cat? Just wondering. --- >8 ---- List archives:

3.3p1 on Immunix (RH) 6.2
Just compiled the SRPM for 3.3p1 on my Immunix 6.2 box (Redhat 6.2 + Stackguard compiler), fired up the server, and tried to connect to it. No joy. In the spec file I changed the following options: # Is this build for RHL 6.x? %define build6x 1 # Disable IPv6 (avoids DNS hangs on some glibc versions) %define noip6 1 This appears in the system log: Jun 24 16:11:51 johnh sshd[27774]: fatal:

openssh and multiple ports
Hi, I must access several hosts through reverse masquerading gateways which are visible on the Internet under a single IP address, with different ports (2, 22, 222, 2222 etc..) forwarding to port 22 of various internal ssh servers, each with its own hostkey. This setup totally confuses the openssh client because it does not store the port numbers in the known_hosts* file, and thus falsely

smbd segfaults when trying to browse printers folder
Greetings, I just set up another samba server just for serving print queues. Setting everything worked fine, including point-n-print, until I shut down the machine and put it in the rack. Now, if you browse to the box, the printers are listed, and you can connect to them, print to them, etc. no problem. If you click on the printers folder in the browse list, however, to view more detailed

Print Options & CUPS - Can't stop watermarking?
Greetings, I have just set up samba printing with CUPS as the back end. (Samba 2.2.8a, CUPS 1.1.9) Everything works great, including automatic driver download/Point -n- Print. The problem is that whenever I print through Samba from a Windows 2000 Workstation, a watermark gets added to the print job. The default driver options are set on the server, so that watermarking is "off",

Copy *just* user accounts from LDAP?
Greetings All, I have a Samba-controlled domain, with everything in LDAP. I also have an off-site server that I rsync all our files to every couple hours. What I'd like to do is set up a new Samba domain on the off-site server so users can log into it for disaster recovery purposes - and I'd like to keep the user account information synchronized with the main server so user's

smbldap_open: cannot access LDAP when not root..
Greetings list, I just upgraded my main file server, and copied over a dump of my LDAP database, samba conf files, tdbs, etc. Everything fired up OK and runs, except: -Some users (perhaps 5 or 6 out of 125) can't log in, getting the "domain unavailable" message -I can't rejoin them to the domain - the process appears to succeed, but doesn't -One of the machine accounts

SU vs. ssh root@host
All-- su cannot be run without trusting the shell. The shell cannot be trusted without trusting any instructions the shell uses, from library calls to rc scripts. Hell, the instructions the shell uses can't even be trusted, since they're all living in userspace memory. By contrast, SSHD is generally a root owned, highly secure environment with no unpriveledged userspace
