Does VAD/DTX work without VBR and Preprocessor
Hi Marc, Thanks for your quick response. So if VAD is enabled then VBR will be enable although it's a special VBR. How about take out the VAD code from the VBR and remove the code else? Does VAD/DTX work without VBR and Preprocessor
Hello, I'm try to run speex on some ARM processor. I'd like to cut away some speex features including VBR, ABR and preprocessor while still supporting VAD/DTX. But I've found some puzzles in the source code regarding VAD as below, 1) there are VAD related codes in the source file preprocess.c. Will VAD still work If I don't use the source file preprocess.c? 2)The speex manual

please test rc2 support in sweep :)
Hi, I'm updating speex support in sweep to RC2 and I'd like some advice on encoder options, and would appreciate some testing of the user interface. a screenshot of the updated speex encoding dialog: http://www.vergenet.net/~conrad/tmp/sw_speexRC2_1.png you can grab a tarball of sweep for testing here: http://www.vergenet.net/~conrad/tmp/sweep-0.8.0-speexRC2.tar.gz general

Speex settings and jitter
Hi Conrad, Thanks a lot for the info. This is exactly what I needed. We want to use speex in our IP telephony client and I was indeed trying to put together a GUI configuration screen. Unable to start Asterisk 1.4 on CentOS 4.4 (installed from ATrpms)
Hi Everyone, I am still unable to start Asterisk 1.4 that I installed using ATrpms. I was initially suspecting some permissions issues but it seems to me that its more to do with a speex codec not loading properly. Here is the message I get if I run asterisk -cvvvvvvvvvvvvvv app_userevent.so => (Custom User Event Application) == Parsing '/etc/asterisk/codecs.conf': Found --

SPEEX CODEC and Voicepulse
I'm trying to use the SPEEX codec with Voicepulse. Here's what I see in the CLI when I RELOAD: -- Reloading module 'codec_speex.so' (Speex/PCM16 (signed linear) Codec Translator) == Parsing '/etc/asterisk/codecs.conf': Found -- CODEC SPEEX: Setting Quality to 5 -- CODEC SPEEX: Setting Complexity to 5 -- CODEC SPEEX: Perceptual Enhancement Mode.

Speex wishlist
Jean-Marc, I was wondering if you could add a check to ensure that memory is actually allocated during the nb_encoder_init and sb_encoder_init functions. We have been looking at using Speex on a DSP and noticed that if we didn't allocate a large enough heap space memory segment that the DSP would crash. I would recommend something like: if (!st->stack) fprintf(stderr,"ERROR

Discontinuous encoding and VBR tradeoffs
I don't know why you're getting sound carrying over to the next time you encode - that doesn't sound normal to me. Have you tried saving and examining the raw audio you're feeding to the encoder? Have you tried encoding and decoding that using speexenc/speexdec? I use Speex in VBR mode for a VoIP app. I'm always recording and running the audio through the preprocessor

Speex wishlist
Hi, Speex is getting close to beta4, which I'd like to be feature-complete (or as close as possible). That's why I'd like to ask if anyone here has needs for a feature that hasn't been implemented yet. If so, please let me know. For those interested, here's what's going to be in beta4. First, the VBR code has been greatly improved and now works good with wideband too.

Questions relating RTP packetisation
Hello. I am working on implementing RFC 5574 (RTP Payload Format for the Speex Codec) in the ffmpeg and have a question concerning it. It would be nice if somebody could answered it. * Chapter 4.1.1 Registration of Media Type Audio/Speex, subpart "Optional parameters" states these SDP optional parameters: vbr: variable bit-rate - either 'on', 'off', or 'vad'

preprocessor VAD only rocognize between silence and not silence
Hello, in my project im using speex 1.2rc1 and the preprocessor VAD seems to only separate complete silence from not complete silence frames. The Speex Manual, you can read "The voice activity detector (VAD) provided by the preprocessor is more advanced than the one directly provided in the codec." but if you go to the source code in preprocess.c line 995 "/* FIXME: This VAD

preprocessor VAD only rocognize between silence andnot silence
Jesus, Unfortunately, FFT and magic algorithms don't work (yet?). You might want to try this if you're not satisfied with Speex VAD: http://lists.xiph.org/pipermail/speex-dev/2008-August/006860.html It won't perform any miracles, but I think it works pretty well and is easy to tweak. Complexity vs BitRate
Jean-Marc and others, We are using Speex inside our Video Conferencing application and have some questions about the trade-off of complexity vs bitrate. A little background information is needed: 1. For us the actual bit-rate isn't that big a deal. Speex running at 14kbps or 8 kbps is minor compared to the video traffic running at 128, 256 or 384 kbps. 2. We care a little about

SpeexEncoder requires 320 samples to process a Frame, not 160
Hi guys I have tried compiling this attached code, I made all the buffers 320, there is no trace of a 160 buffer, but I get a " SpeexEncoder requires 320 samples to process a Frame, not 160" error. Maybe there's something I'm missing, here's my code: import java.io.IOException; import java.io.FileOutputStream; import java.io.File; import
