Thunderbird ignores some folders
Dear readers
we are using Dovecot 2.2.7 and all of our users are using Thunderbird as
their mail client. Some of them additionally use their iPad/iPhone and a
very few an Android Mail-Client.
Now one user noticed that two of his mail folders disappeared. He first
believed that he accidentally deleted those folders but then he realized
that they are still visible from his iPad. I checked this

%{orig_user} missing in checkpassword-Script
Dear dovecot maintainers:
I'm using SSL client certificates together with a checkpassword scripts
to authenticate our users.
My problem is: In the checkpassword script the AUTH_USER environment
variable will either contain the username that was configured in the
mailclient (if auth_ssl_username_from_cert=false) or the username
from the certificate (if auth_ssl_username_from_cert=true).

samba 4.x slow ...
just to verify basic facts:
Did you cross check vie network sniff, on which SMB protocol versions Server + Win 7 clients agree ?
Or did you pin down via registry ?
AFAIK only starting with win 8 or win 10 clients you could ask with powershell, which protocol version is in use.
Did you also cross check samba logs for a name resolution issue ( windows names, not DNS)
if one of your boxes is an

Some problems with samba 2.0.7
Hi,
we are using samba 2.0.7. on our HP file-server. For
the NT users everything is ok, but we are not able
to setup WIN95/98 computers to use the shares.
All computers are within the same domain. Shares
of NT-pc can be used and also shares from other linux
boxe, but NOT from the HP.
The global section is the same on the linux and HP machines.
Any idea ?
How can we check what is going wrong ?

Logon with Client Certificate and OTP fallback
Dear Dovecot experts,
we have unusual authentication requirements, namely:
- almost all of our user are using a smartcard to connect
with our mailserver. Thunderbird is our friend here as it will
use the smartcard as an additional certificate store and
Thunderbird will do client certificate based authentication
when connecting via SSL with a mailserver
- there's no way (at least that I know

checkpassword protocol
Hi,
I'm writing a checkpassword script in order to support our OTP token
as a fallback for client certificate authentication. Here are two
questions:
1) It seems to me that the username and the password will be
delivered to my script both on file descriptor 3 and via the
environment variables AUTH_USER and AUTH_PASSWORD.
May I ignore file descriptor 3 and use the environment variables
or may

Migration samba3 -> samba4
Hi,
we are still using a setup with openldap + samba3. On the unix systems
we are using ldap for authentication, for all windows clients samba is used.
When we migrate to samba4 what will happen to the unix clients ?
Can they ask the samba4 PDC ?
For an update . are there other Howto's as the

ssl_require_crl does not work as expected
Hi
I'm trying to use dovecot with client certificates. We produce our
certificates with our
on CA and we do NOT use certificate revocation lists.
So I put "ssl_require_crl = no" into 10-ssl.conf. I did not find a solution
neither
in the wiki nor somewhere else, so I finally started to read the source.
My impression is that openssl will always try to use CRLs. If

Big problem with file permission !!
Hi,
we are running samba 2.2.5 (HP 1.0.9) on our HPUX file server. Well it is
running without any problems, but now
a user pointed out which looks like a big problem for me:
We have setup a lot of shares for projects. As an example
one share looks like this

Samba as printserver; problems with settings
Hi,
we are using cups 1.1.15,samba 2.2.5 under suse8.0
for printing.
Everything works well (driver download), but we have
some problems with the settings for the printers.
Under NT 4.0 it is not possible to set "document defaults"
all values can not be changed (only in the printing dialog).
Also everything is lost, when you log off.
What can we do to fix it ?
The problem is, that

buffer_get_bignum2: negative numbers not supported
Hi
I have added smartcard support to PuTTY and this worked fine
until yesterday when we replaced one of our Slackware-9 machines
by a Slackware-10 one.
Slackware-9 contained OpenSSH 3.5p1 while Slackware-10 has
OpenSSH 3.8.1p1.
Now the same keys that worked before do not work anymore and
OpenSSH fails with

cupsaddsmb - problem; once again
Hello,
I posted 2 weeks ago this problem and it is currently not working.
First thanks a lot for all the hints and helps.
In the attached file I have added (hopefully) all informations.
To summarize:
I want to setup a print server, which allows the user to
download the necessary files for new printers.
Installed are (on top of suse 7.1) samba 2.2.6_pre2 and cups 1.1.15_1.
Installed the printers,

cupsaddsmb - problem
Hello,
I want to setup a new print server using cups and samba
for our new institue. Everything is working well (printing
from unix and windows), but the driver download
for the windows clients won't work and I have no idea what's
wrong.
Currently i have installed cups-1.15 and samba 2.2.5
on top of suse 8.0 using the rpm-files from

KERNEL BUG: lseek() broken on raw devices
Hi,
I just figured FreeBSD will happily write data (disk blocks) from byte
#0 even after successful lseek(fd, 17, SEEK_SET) returned 17, at least
on da(4) partitions such as rda0s1f. Tested on 4.9-PRERELEASE checked
out early Sep 5th.
I'd suggest that lseek to a non-sector boundary returns either (off_t)-1
and EINVAL (preferred) or at least returns the actual position (though
