Inconsistent behavior using 3.1.2 from macOS 10.12.2 to an AFP mount
Assuming you are aware Apple 10.12.1/2 did a number on crypto, broke SSH,
HTTPS to "legacy" servers.

ACL bug
Hello,
I'm using samba 3.0.2(acl) and kernel 2.4.24+acl, libacl-2.2.23.
Following problem:
When I create a file in an directory with extended ACLs, samba applies the
"create mask" in a wrong way (IMHO).
The normal behaviour of tools like chmod is that the second (middle)
permission field is mapped to the "mask" ACE if the file has an extended
ACL, so that the change

raid6: rmw writes all the time?
Hi all,
we got a new test system here and I just also tested btrfs raid6 on
that. Write performance is slightly lower than hw-raid (LSI megasas) and
md-raid6, but it probably would be much better than any of these two, if
it wouldn''t read all the during the writes. Is this a known issue? This
is with linux-3.9.2.
Thanks,
Bernd

Xattrs and Delete over AFP
Hello group,
I have an OSX 10.3.9 Server that I'm trying to back up with rsync 3.0.2.
Since I didn't have any luck with the 10.3.9 patch and I do have 10.4 clients,
I decided to try running the backup over AFP (Apple's file sharing protocol).
I found a way to mount the AFP volume with root permissions and rsync 3.0.2
works very nicely using this on the 10.4 clients, preserving

eval function with javascript-semantics possible in R?
Dear r-helpers,
I am looking for an R-equivalent for the eval-function in javascript which
can
interpret a string as code on runtime, thereby allowing things like
for (i in c(1:2))
{
eval(items + "i") <- read.csv(eval(filename+ i), dec=",");
}
which would execute (with filename="testfile"):
items1 <- read.csv(testfile1, dec=",");

Non-clean Rsync 3.0.3 exit on OSX
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I've compiled rsync 3.0.3 on OSX 10.4 PPC via the plain jane
./configure; make method (no patches). The resulting binary has then
been moved to /usr/local/bin/rsync3 and copied to a OSX 10.5.4 Intel
client machine as rsync3.
I then run the following command:
rsync3 -vvv -e ssh -avAX --progress --delete

Poor performance on NFS-exported ZFS volumes
I''m seeing some pretty pitiful performance using ZFS on a NFS server, with a ZFS volume exported (only with rw=host.foo.com,root=host.foo.com opts) and mounted on a Linux host running kernel 2.4.31. This linux kernel I''m working with is limited in that I can only do NFSv2 mounts... irregardless of that aspect, I''m sure something''s amiss.
I mounted the zfs-based

problem restoring via rsync when using stored ACLs (--fake-super)
Hello,
In summary, i appear to have encountered a bug when attempting to
restore files using rsync 3.0.0pre4 (matt) with stored ACLs (via
--fake-super). The ACL information appears to be correctly stored as
xattrs on the backup server; however, when i attempt to restore while
preserving the ACL data, i get the following error:
ERROR: out of memory in get_xattr_data [sender]

sparse files on EC volume
Hello
I'm running some tests to compare performance between Gluster FUSE mount
and formated sparse files (located on the same Gluster FUSE mount).
The Gluster volume is EC (same for both tests).
I'm seeing HUGE difference and trying to figure out why.
Here is an example:
GlusterFUSE mount:
# cd /mnt/glusterfs
# rm -f testfile1 ; dd if=/dev/zero of=testfile1 bs=1G count=1
1+0 records

Batch Mode?
I realize batch mode is still experimental, but I was hoping there might be
a workaround for a problem I am getting.
I have been trying to run some tests and I get the below error when I use
the --read-batch option to. I can successfully create an initial set of
batch files, then a second set based upon a few modified test files from the
first batch. When I first run the --read-batch option

[patch] NFSv4/ZFS ACLs
This is a PoC patch for NFSv4/ZFS ACLs.
The objective of the patch is that rsync --acls support NFSv4/ZFS ACLs
without requiring a new command line option
NFSv4 ACLs can't be represented using POSIX draft ACLs, if an NFSv4 ACL is
present a separate POSIX draft ACL will not be present and there are new
APIs
to access NFSv4 ACLs. So we need to distinguish between NFSv4 ACLs and

sparse files on EC volume
Hi Xavi
At this time I'm using 'plain' bricks with XFS. I'll be moving to LVM
cached bricks.
There is no RAID for data bricks, but I'll be using hardware RAID10 for SSD
cache disks (I can use 'writeback' cache in this case).
'small file performance' is the main reason I'm looking at different
options, i.e. using formated sparse files.
I spent considerable

routes.rb question.
I have a simple program that read all HTML files from a directory and
returns parts of the content and the file names which are HREFs to
those file.
I build the HREF string dynamicaly as PATH_TO_DOC_ROOT + "file_name".
My PATH_TO_DOC_ROOT = http://127.0.0.1:3000/docman/public/docs. So,
the final link that I am interested in might look like this:

libvirt support for qcow2 rebase?
I have not found support in libvirt (nor virsh) for doing the equivalent
of "qemu-img rebase ....".
The use case:
You have copied a qcow2 stack and the new files have different names or
reside in a different directory. Therefore you need to change the
backing file.
Is there a way to do this? Is this a planned addition to libvirt?

ZFS & small files
First - many, many congrats to team ZFS. Developing/writing a new Unix fs
is a very non-trivial exercise with zero tolerance for developer bugs.
I just loaded build 27a on a w1100z with a single AMD 150 CPU (2Gb RAM) and
a single (for now) SCSI disk drive: FUJITSU MAP3367NP (Revision: 0108)
hooked up to the built-in SCSI controller (the only device on the SCSI
bus).
My initial ZFS test was to

The exclude option of Rsync not work right.
Hello,
Can someone explain why my exclude option is not excluding filles as
instructed in my script below.
I have tried multiple methods and still have been unsuccessful in
excluding the one file "test.sql".
The methods I have tried are:
1. Removing EXTRAFLAG variable -a
2. Removing using -a
3. Option --include infront of --exclude and behind of --exclude.
4. rsync /software/testdir/

State of Gluster 3.4 alpha 3 NFS ACL support
Wonder if someone can point me in the right direction here - just
built some new bricks running gluster 3.4 alpha 3 (from
http://download.gluster.org) with the objective of testing them to
replace some existing 3.2 systems in production.
The main thing I was after was NFS ACL support, however on getting
everything setup, I still don't seem to be able to see POSIX extended
ACLs on the
