mtime not updating on remote directory
Hello, I'm using rsync as part of a centralised config management for several servers. I'm trying to monitor the mtime of a particular directory and confirm that the remote copies are approximately as new as the the local master. However, mtime on that directory is not being synced. Here's my rsync command: cd $confdir && rsync -avpzR --checksum -I -e "ssh"

pcse package error message concerning nrows of using data
Dear R Community, I am currently facing this seemingly obscure Problem with Panel Corrected Standard Errors (PCSE) following Beck & Katz (1995). As the authors suggest, I regressed a linear model (tmodel) with lm() with option "na.action=na.exclude" (I have also tried other options here). My dataframe is organized in pooled times series fashion, but with various missing values

installing/running Monkey Island 3 and 4
I have problems running Monkey Island 3 here. Installing it works fine, but the problems comes when trying to run it. When pressing "Play Game" (I think that's what the button says), the program just wants to install DirectX 5.0. I guess that trying to install it is NOT an option, when you're using wine. Second, installing Monkey Island 4 is not successful, because you have this

pcse package - clarifying question about arguments groupN and groupT
Just two clarifying questions about the package "pcse". Argument "groupN": It should be a factor that tells us to what subgroup each record belongs, right? Argument "groupT" should be a vector that contains the time identifier. Can it be just a factor (e.g., 1, 2, 3, etc.) - or does it have to be in the date format? Thank you very much! -- Dimitri Liakhovitski

Looking for C8 AMD help
I'm migrating from C7 to C8.? I'm currently using autofs, but alas autofs has been dropped in C8 for the AMD automounter. I have some very ancient knowledge of AMD, I used it when it was first introduced many years ago on Solaris and moved to Sun's automounter when it was introduced. So now it's back to square one. I used automount2amd to convert one of my existing maps,

To launch a Windows exe from a command line, is it "wine <program>" or "wine start <program>"? I've seen both mentioned in the documentation.

Making remote access to qemu://session easier?
This is frustrating: $ export LIBVIRT_DEFAULT_URI=qemu+ssh://remotehost/session $ virsh list error: failed to connect to the hypervisor error: no valid connection error: Operation not supported: Connecting to session instance without socket path is not supported by the ssh connection driver Has there been any thought given to making this easier? It seems that having a simple helper

check does not check that package examples remove tempdir()
I was looking at the CRAN package 'bfork-0.1.2', which exposes the Unix fork() and waitpid() calls at the R code level, and noticed that the help file example for bfork::fork removes R's temporary directory, the value of tempdir(). I think it happens because the forked process shares the value of tempdir() with the parent process and removes it when it exits. This seems like a

Puzzled by -R dropping first argument
Hi All! I am puzzled. I am using openssh 5.3p1 on RHEL/CentOS but am seeing the same behaviour for osx and debian: ssh -R xxx:yyy:yyy:yyy remotehost Will effectively drop the first (xxx) argument and result in ssh -R 127.0.0.1:yyy:yyy:yyy remotehost ssh -R yyy:yyy:yyy remotehost I had a look at the source code where apparently all 4 values are ready and handed down to the appropriate
