issues with Time Machine - did macOS change how they handle things?
TL;DR: Time Machine cannot create a *new* backup on my shared drive, but can add to an *existing* backup.
I'm running macOS Catalina and my Time Machine backs up to a Debian 10 server with NetAtalk and Avahi. Since Mavericks macOS has preferred SMB, and given SMB is marginally faster I decided to switch to using SMB for the Time Machine shares. On a fresh AFP share I can start a new Time

Why is my rsync transfer slow?
Thank you. I will try your suggestions. First I will connect the NAS
directly to the computer (Do you recommend USB2 or 1 Gb Ethernet? Or
should I daisy chain external HD and NAS? Then it would look like this:
Computer <--FW800--> HD <--USB2--> NAS
The other option is
HD <--FW800--> Computer <--USB2 or Ethernet 1000Mbit --> NAS
But I still must say it is weird that

Cloning CentOS workstations
I manage a set of CentOS operations workstations which are all clones of each
other (3 "live" and 1 "spare" kept powered down); each has a single drive with
four partitions (/boot, /, /home, swap). I've already set up cron'd rsync jobs
to copy the operations accounts between the workstations on a daily basis,
so that when one fails, it is a simple, quick process to swap

Patches for OS X.
What patch files are necessary to build rsync-3.0.9 for OS X 10.6.8 (Darwin
10.8.0)?
Mr. Bombich maintains an excellent page about this, but it's a bit out of
date, methinks, and his instructions point to patch files that return some
interesting errors.
My rsync-3.0.9 is working just fine, btw, with the fileflags and crtimes
and hfs-compression patches applied; I just wondered if the others

OS X and rsync: unpack_smb_acl errors and --numeric-ids
First of all. Thank you rsync developers and maintainers for all of your
work. It is awesome. I love rsync. I can't thank you enough.
So this has been brought up before:
https://lists.samba.org/archive/rsync/2010-April/024941.html
We are getting this error:
stderr: rsync: unpack_smb_acl: sys_acl_get_info(): Undefined error: 0 (0)

Error messages 3.0.6pre1
I compiled 3.0.6pre1, including the crtimes and fileflags patches for
use on Intel OS X 10.5.6, as described by Mr. Bombich (thanks!) here:
<http://www.bombich.com/mactips/rsync.html>
I want to use 3.0.6 because it seems that this bug:
<https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5365>
has been resolved (yay!).

Ah, you didn't mention NAS ! How is it connected to the computer hosting "A" ? If via network then you've added *another* layer.

v3.0.4 OS X Execution Errors
Hello,
I have compiled v3.0.4 of rsync per
http://www.bombich.com/mactips/rsync.html. Unfortunately, I can't get
rsync v3.0.4 to work properly.
If I execute this command on the target Mac, I receive this error.

Samba 4.8.5 breaks Time Machine support
Hi,
tl;dr - Samba 4.8.5 broke macOS's Time Machine support (at least for
me), patching in the "follow-up patch" from
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13441 makes it work again.
It would be great if it could be included in an official patch release
soon. :)
Just writing about the problem and solution here, in case someone else
stumbles upon it. Couldn't find any

rsync stalls at .sparsebundle directories on OS X
Hi. I try to make backups from one disk to another. I have .sparsebundle[1] directories on the source drive (/Volumes/data/). When rsync reaches the first .sparsebundle it stalls and stays there until i ctrl+c.
I'm using OS X Yosemite and rsync version 3.1.1 protocol version 31 installed via homebrew. However, I had this problem on OS X Lion too using rsync 3.0.9. Actually, the reason I

supporting HFS+ attributes and forks on a Linux rsync server?
I'm trying to use rsync to back up a Mac OS X machine to a Linux server.
I've used the instructions at http://www.bombich.com/mactips/rsync.html
to patch and install rsync 3.0.2 to support HFS+ attributes and forks on
the client. I was assuming the Linux box needed the same version, and so
tried compiling the patched rsync but got the following:

Hello,
I'm setting up a system for automated synchronization and backup between different macs (OS X Lion 10.7). I use HFS+ Journaled as filesystem.
I wanted to follow these guidelines:
http://www.bombich.com/rsync.html
but I gave a look inside the patches Mr. Bombich suggested and I thought I could try first by using only the normal ones provided by rsync.samba.org, so I skipped

Writing on an HFS+ drive on raspberry pi
Hey there,
to be clear:
You've mounted a HFS+ drive on your raspberry pi with rw permissions using fstab.
You're able to write files (e.g. as root) on your shares directory without samba, right?
As soon as you try to connect Samba using your Mac you haven't any write permissions, right?
Have you tried using a Windows machine to connect to your share? Or to disable the Unix
