rsync --link-dest won't link even if existing file is out of date
Not to mention the fact that ZFS requires considerable hardware resources (CPU & memory) to perform well. It also requires you to learn a whole new terminology to wrap your head around it. It's certainly not a trivial swap to say the least... Thanks, -Clint On Mon, Apr 6, 2015 at 9:12 AM, Ken Chase <rsync-list-m829 at sizone.org> wrote: > This has been a consideration. But it

rsync --link-dest won't link even if existing file is out of date
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Since you are in an environment with millions of files I highly recommend that you move to ZFS storage and use ZFS's subvolume snapshots instead of --link-dest. It is much more space efficient, rsync run time efficient, and the old backups can be deleted in seconds. Rsync doesn't have to understand anything about ZFS. You just rsync to the

rsync --link-dest won't link even if existing file is out of date
Feature request: allow --link-dest dir to be linked to even if file exists in target. This statement from the man page is adhered to too strongly IMHO: "This option works best when copying into an empty destination hierarchy, as rsync treats existing files as definitive (so it never looks in the link-dest dirs when a destination file already exists)". I was suprised by this behaviour

rsync --link-dest won't link even if existing file is out of date
This has been a consideration. But it pains me that a tiny change/addition to the rsync option set would save much time and space for other legit use cases. We know rsync very well, we dont know ZFS very well (licensing kept the tech out of our linux-centric operations). We've been using it but we're not experts yet. Thanks for the suggestion. /kc On Mon, Apr 06, 2015 at 12:07:05PM

[patch] link-dest messages and max-size warnings (fwd)
rsync Folks, The following explanatory text is by me and the patches are by Rowan McKenzie for use by the Advanced Scientific Computing group at CSIRO. This patch builds upon the --link-dest patch by Bryant Hansen (Thanks heaps!). 1. The original patch provided an alternate behaviour for rsync when using the --link-dest option. When there are identical files in the source and link-dest areas,

Changed attributes for a file in destination that is hard linked get propagated to --link-dest directories
Folks, Thinking again about the issue of changed attributes for a file in source that is identical in content to a file in destination that is hard linked get propagated to the --link-dest directories I would like to suggest a new flag, (perhaps called something like --preserve-linked-attributes), to allow callers to get the behaviour that is needed to allow the use of recycled

llvm-link: why link '@llvm.global_ctors' into dest file even it's not used in dest file?
Hi all, Recently I do some jobs based on llvm-link tool. I wonder why link '@llvm.global_ctors' into dest file, even it's not used in dest file? And how can I remove it? Thank you all in advance! Fangqing Xilinx Inc. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

[LLVMdev] Install fails due to missing 'pax' tool
Vladimir, I believe I've corrected this situation with version 1.299 of Makefile.rules. It now only uses find and install to do the installation of the header files. pax isn't used any more. Hopefully this helps you. Reid. On Wed, 2005-02-16 at 04:18, Vladimir Prus wrote: > Hello, > I've just tries make && make install on a fresh CVS tree, and get: > >

Without recycling, and after a failure, the latest available backup may not have much in it. Just wanted to point out that LBackup has a number of checks in place to detect failures during a backup. If this happens, then that backup is not labeled as a

Hello, I've just tries make && make install on a fresh CVS tree, and get: llvm[0]: Installing include files /bin/sh: line 1: pax: command not found Two questions. 1. Why install process requires some nonstandard tool? Is it possible to get away without it. 2. autoconf/configure.ac has this: AC_PATH_PROG(PAX, [pax], [pax]) but Makefile.rules uses plain 'pax',

How do you handle snapshotting? or do you leave that to the block/fs virtualization layer? /kc On Fri, Apr 17, 2015 at 01:35:27PM +1200, Henri Shustak said: >> Our backup procudures have provision for looking back at previous directories, but there is not much to be gained with recycled directories. Garbled mails in Maildir storage
Hi, from time to time i am having mails delivered to my anon maildrop which completely break mailbox listing. I ignored it mostly as this is an anon maildrop for one time emails so loosing spam wasnt an issue. Today i had a mailbox which wouldnt list at all which was caused by 50 consecutive mails beeing broken. (I am showing the last 20 in the web interface) After some debugging i found a bunch
