batch mode and remote destination
Whats the reason that using a batch file can't be used with a remote destination? rsync --read-batch=foo /mysrc remote:/dest gives remote destination is not allowed with --read-batch I need to push the same set of files to about 20 servers and because of firewall rules, the 20 servers cannot pull from the central one. Thanks Kimo

I have been using batch mode successfully. I try this using cygwin on a PC with 3.0.4 version of rsync. The two PackageOlder dirs are identical cygwin> diff -r /home/bill/tmp/PackageB /home/bill/PackageB cygwin> rsync -vv --only-write-batch=/Temp/changeAtoB.rsync -rptO -L --delete-delay devserver::RT/PackageB/ /home/bill/tmp/PackageA opening tcp connection to devserver port 873 sending

Batch Mode?
I realize batch mode is still experimental, but I was hoping there might be a workaround for a problem I am getting. I have been trying to run some tests and I get the below error when I use the --read-batch option to. I can successfully create an initial set of batch files, then a second set based upon a few modified test files from the first batch. When I first run the --read-batch option

issues with batch mode for incremental backups
Hi! I use rsync batch mode for incremental backups. That is, I create an on-line backup with rsync, and use the --write-batch flag to additionally generate my delta, which I send off-site. To restore, I download a full backup and apply the deltas with --read-batch. This is quite a lovely setup, in principle. However, restore has give me problems. Before I detail them, let me ask: Are a lot

Rsync lets user corrupt dest by applying non-inplace batch in inplace mode
Wayne, I noticed that rsync will let me apply a non-inplace batch file in inplace mode. This corrupts the destination file if the batch file copies any data forward (from earlier offsets to later ones). Of course, the post-transfer checksum detects the corruption and gives the "ERROR: <file> failed verification" message, but rsync doesn't give the user a clue why the

rsync+ (batch mode) feature suggestion
Bert, Hi. If you are still interested in your rsync+ project, changes for which have evidently been (and are, perhaps, still being?) submitted to the official, upstream rsync version, you may want to add the following feature, proffered below, in order to conduce a little greater batch mode usage flexibility primarily for those with above average security concerns. Currently (at least in the

read-batch: Skipping batched update..No batched update inconsistency
I already asked this question before, some time ago (a few months), but got no reply. We're using a backup system based on rsync and batched updates. Quite often I see a situation when rsync refuses to apply next batch with the following messages: applying f0002.rgs-podm.ru 142 (Skipping batched update for "etc/cron.d/sysstat") (Skipping batched update for

AW: problem with batch mode:
OK. I got the rsync CVS code and compiled under Linux. That did the job, but only with --no-whole-file because of the local transfer. I then tried to read-batch... under Windows / Cygwin with the current Cygwin rsync. That didn't work - as expected. After compiling again under cygwin it worked! I can now create a diff from a new CD to the version before and send the diff files by email. On

Batch mode scenario ("use case")
Hello, I came up with this scenario of the use of batch mode while thinking of back-up schemes to use for myself. However, it could be that the last step needed in this scenario is not supported by rsync! Here's the scenario: At one time, /c/home/wer/work and /e/gold had identical content and were really huge (say, 200 GBytes). After some complex, intricate work, Mr. Wer

batch-mode fixes [was: [PATCH] fix read-batch SEGFAULT]
Chris, to put things in the right prespective, you should read (if you haven't done so already) the original paper describing the design behind batch mode. The design and implementation of this functionality goes back to a project called the Internet2 Distributed Storage Infrastructure (I2-DSI). As part of that project, the authors created a modified version of rsync (called rsync+)

--remove-source-files problem when used with --write-batch
I used this rsync command: rsync -az --only-write-batch=tmp.rsync --inplace --remove-source-files --include='*' --include='*/' tmp/ nonexistent_dir which created file tmp.rsync.sh containing this rsync command: rsync --filter=._- -az --read-batch=tmp.rsync --inplace --remove-source-files ${1:-nonexistent_dir} <<'#E# which when executed gives the error:

Batch mode creates huge diffs, bug(s)?
So the short summary of my problem is, the batch file rsync creates is HUGE for a very small change. The idea is to create workstation image with partimage, update it with some software and send the image update diff over the wire to a large number of destinations over a satellite link, but the batch file updates are several orders of magnitude too large. I don't know exactly how partimage

rsync -- batch mode. bug?
Hi all, I am using the following rsync command. rsync --write-batch -av --stats `cat $1` -e ssh user@host:/dirPath/ This is what is happening. 1. I have a list of , say 10 files. 2. On first attempt, all files are successfully rsynced. 3. When, I repeat the same command again, the files are MISSING on the destination machine. 4. From the log, it looks like the files are NOT being

Incremental backups and batch mode.
I'm trying to use the rsync algorithm for incremental backups. After a quick look at rsync I saw the batch mode operations, and I thought that maybe I can modify them for incremental backups. What is needed is to add an option to save the checksums of all the files of the level 0 backup and a second option to use the level n checksum to calculate the delta batch files for the level n+1
