Spotlight configuration trouble
Hi Louis, I used your excellent packages but also tried building from source. I?m trying to get Tracker working. Elasticsearch was simpler to get going but it doesn?t really suite the use case due to limitations in fscrawler. I actually created the mdssvc user but also tried directly under root once the dedicated user didn?t work. The problem might be somewhere in D-Bus configuration but I

Hello, yes sadly update 8.9 of elasticsearch broke the samba integration. Seems like 8.10 is still broken. Stay on 8.8 until this is fixed. Ive emailed Ralph B?hme of Sernet already, but hes got no time for it atm. Im not sure about the second part of your bug report though: > There is a bug where when the samba server is running and files are being indexed while samba is running finder

Spotlight configuration trouble
I?m trying to setup Spotlight with Tracker (2.3 from Ubuntu repo) backend in Ubuntu 20.04 and Samba 4.12.7. I?ve followed the wiki closely but every time I try to search I get this in the logs: [2020/10/02 10:43:42.078242, 0] ../../source3/rpc_server/mdssvc/mdssvc_tracker.c:403(mds_tracker_search_start) mds_tracker_search_start: no connection to Tracker [2020/10/02 10:43:42.079897, 0]

Spotlight performance
When comparing to native macOS Spotlight searches, the Samba & elasticsearch combo is much slower, at least for me. Samba takes minutes to return a few hundred results, while native macOS returns thousands of results in a few seconds. This is remotely over a mobile connection, LAN is probably better. Is this due to the missing Spotlight RPC packet fragmentation support mentioned in the

Spotlight issues
So I have two issues. 1) Using Samba 4.19.2 with spotlight and elasticsearch 8.10.3 doesn?t work. Errors: [2023/10/22 09:04:17, 0] ../../source3/rpc_server/mdssvc/mdssvc_es.c:755(mds_es_search_http_read_done) mds_es_search_http_read_done: json_loadb failed 2) Using Samba 4.19.2 with spotlight and elasticsearch 7.17.10 works. Hi Ralph, Someone has created this: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15379 Looks like the same issue. What?s a good way to fund this? How to implement Spotlight support using ElasticSearch
Samba 4.12 release notes <https://www.samba.org/samba/history/samba-4.12.0.html> mention "New Spotlight backend for Elasticsearch" and specify some new parameters for smb.conf, but there appear to be zero guides or further instructions for getting this to work. I'm not even clear how filesystem indexing is supposed to work. ElasticSearch appears to be simply a searchable

Hi Noel, As we discussed on the list, I busy getting the bits and pieces in place to be able to test your windows search work. I am running all my stuff on Debian Bullseye, with Samba code in 3 lxc-containers. Two are for the DCs, one is the fileserver. Everything is managed by Ansible code, I try to avoid manual changes to my environment(s) as much as possible. Generally manual changes are

Interesting. This will likely take a day or two to diagnose and fix. Hopefully someone comes around and funds this fix. Spotlight indexing with fscrawler for multiple shares
Hey Kees, fs2es-indexer is designed to be a lightweight alternative to FSCrawler. So no ... it doesnt do any content indexing or saves much of the metadata. As far as I understand it the OCR and other stuff makes FScrawler that big. And we dont need any of that - we just want to search for file names. BUT Im open for merge requests ;-) I currently getting away with a lot less complexity

Spotlight & accented characters in share name
Hi, I finally found out why I?ve had trouble getting Spotlight searches working well with the latest installation I?m working on. It looks like searches won?t work if there are any accented characters in the share name. In this case it is the ? character. Running mount in macOS shows it like this: //user at server.address/Share_with_the_O%CC%88_character on /Volumes/Share_with_the_?_character

Spotlight indexing with fscrawler for multiple shares
Hi Team, Did anybody solve the issue of FScrawler crawling over multiple shares, preferably from a single job or from a single service? Setting up a service for FScrawler per share does not scale very nice... - Kees.

Samba vs Windows - File sharing in a domain setting
Hi Louis, The idea I had with this thread is to just get an honest comparison between Windows and Samba when it comes to file sharing needs in the Windows world, the missing Windows Search capability was just an example to get the discussion going. If I understand your reference correctly, there is a solution, compatible with Apple's Spotlight, to index files on a Samba server using

Hai Viktor, I dont know or can't tell if this setup can use the windows indexing, i havent looked in to that. I dont use windows indexer. elasticsearch max results ignored
I noticed during testing a new installation that "elasticsearch:max results? seems to be ignored in Samba 4.19.6. Any limit I set doesn?t stick and I get results over the limit. I tried setting it both in global section and in a share. Leaving it out altogether also results in results over the default limit of 100. Anyone else notice this? I?m running Samba on Debian 12 LXC container.
