Does this also happen on Win 8.1 or 10? Please try, if you did not already.
Do the clients have all available updates applied?

Renaming a folder while other smbd-users have files opened
A rather basic issue, but very important -> the following happened to me
today:
samba-4.8.3 on a debian stretch machine, AD-domain-member
share:

comment = Daten
create mask = 0775
directory mask = 02775
force directory mode = 0775
path = /mnt/samba/
read only = No
veto oplock files = /*.DAT/*.dat/
situation:
More than 10 users have files open in there, doing their work

Samba 4.8.2
Hi Stefan,
Good question here.
I'll explain, i'll reply to the list also, this info can also be handy for others .
I always follow this approach for my DC upgrades.
Start with the DC with FSMO roles then the others.
1) backup.
I use virtual machines for the DC's, so i down all my DC's and take an offline snapshot.
If you dont have virtual machines, i suggest the

edited accordingly, and rm-ed that idmap schema line on DM.
I now have on the DM:
[global]
workgroup = BUERO
realm = secret.AT
netbios name = SERVER
security = ADS
map to guest = Bad User
username map = /etc/samba/smbusers

samba fails to start.
After a hiccup or two with Samba not wanting to restart, I opted to
look for a pid/lock file and found none.
Tried to correct by restarting the server and had no success with
samba restarting.
There are no errors in smbd.log
I did apt-get upgrade. No help
I did apt-get remove samba, samba and swat went away.
I did note that the XXXX pid was not found during install when samba
was to be killed.

Samba 4.0.17 Available for Download
Great news.
Just wondered if you guys had a good reference point for compiling for the noob?
I will have to google again to tag the version in git as my memory is generally vague.
The only things I generally get confused on is how to change the output folders so they are distro specific.
I have just been disabling apparmor and selinux but if anybody has some sample profiles it would be great.
