ntlm_auth how to get challenge and nt-response
Hi all, I'm trying to use ntlm_auth as authenticator of the freeradius
mschap module. If I use ntlm_auth from command line with username and
password, authentication works. If I use the same credentials with
mschap on the logs I can see the challenge and nt-response and I can't
understand if authentication fails because challenge and response are
wrong or because ntlm_auth can't

Error in message logs with samba-3.0.14a-2
Okay, here's the background.
Fedora Core 4, all recent updates. Using samba-3.0.14a-2. Trying to
mount a remote shared folder, and sharing it for local users in my
office. Using /etc/fstab to auto-mount it on bootup.
Here is the /etc/fstab line that I use to do this:
//share/ccc /gobo smbfs
username=XXXXX,password=XXXXXX,uid=10395,gid=30038,fmask=770,dmask=770 0 0
I use winbind to

accessing foreign AD users to NT domain
That is because.. Your not sending the DOMAIN\username but COMPUTER\username, so access denied.
I know its something like that in the backgrond, but i dont code "Windows" ;-)
So, this is the only part i use:
net use g: \\server.fqdn.tld\share /persistent:yes /user:NT4DOM\%username%
net use k: \\server.fqdn.tld\share /persistent:yes /user:ADDOM\%username%
Stop using :

thanks Rowland I have tried to change ntlm auth to yes but AD users
continue to have problems connecting to the shares...

winbind offline logon
Hi all, I have a problem in libpam-winbind: offline logon doesn't seems
to work. The first version of samba in which I have found the problem is
4.1 and the last is 4.7 but I fear that newer version are affected too.
Hopefully there is a workaround: you have to remove
krb5_ccache_type=FILE from /etc/pam.d/common-auth
I have opened a bug report[ยน] where you can find more details.
Any one

Some hint on migration from a set of NT4 domains to an AD domain...
I've lurked (and posted) on that list by some month, getting many
vaulable informations, but still i've many doubts.
Most of my doubt i think came from the fact that 'AD' (generally) a is
a very complex beast, and if samba in NT4 mode fit very well in a UNIX
environment (and mind ;), samba in AD mode forced me to think in some
''microsoft way'. And i'm not used to.

variable substitution
Hi all, now that I have solved drivers problem on shared printers I've
found a new problem regarding variable substitution on shared printers
"print command"... in smb.conf on the print command parameter section I
read:

but the print command receive the ip address with dots replaced with
underscore :? In effect in smb.conf

from man smb.conf:
SECURITY = ADS
In this mode, Samba will act as a domain member in an ADS realm.

memory leak in 3.3.1 rebalance?
I started rebalancing my 25x2 distributed-replicate volume two days ago.
Since then, the memory usage of the rebalance processes has been
steadily climbing by 1-2 megabytes per minute. Following
http://gluster.org/community/documentation/index.php/High_Memory_Usage,
I tried "echo 2 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches". This had no effect on the
processes' memory usage. Some of the

thanks Mike, have you tried the workaround I suggest i.e. remove
krb5_ccache_type=FILE from the winbind row of the file
/etc/pam.d/common-auth?
