Are you writing "imperative" or "declarative" scenarios in your stories?
Hey all, I just found Bryan Helmkamp''s (of webrat fame) slides on a presentation he did at GoRuCo 2008: http://www.brynary.com/2008/4/26/story-driven-development-slides-posted On slides 21-24 he talks about writing good stories and shows gives two examples.. the way not to do it and the way to do it. You can also see the video of the presentation at confreaks

View Specs vs. Stories
Do RSpec stories make view specs redundant? Does anybody spec their views *and* use stories, and if so how? Any views (no pun intended) appreciated. ~ Thanks Mark -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Cannot log in/authenticate within RSpec Story
I''ve been slamming my head against a wall for a while now, and would like some help. I believe this is session related. I have a story that looks like: -------------------------------------------------- Given that a post exists And I am logged in When I visit the post details page Then there should be a link to add a new comment

Selenium/Watir usage along side Webrat in story testing
This is related to Selenium/Watir usage along side webrat in story testing. MHS_Testing and Rspec-ui provide some great help for testing through frameworks like Selenium/Watir. But there is something missing, Webrat has changed the landscape somewhat with Acceptance Tests/Story Driven development. Now I have a choice: 1. Tests and rails process run as one test process (Webrat) 2. Use

Suggestions on how to use stub_model with webrat?
Hi all, I am using story runner with webrat, but I am not sure how to incorporate stub_model into my tests. The webrat steps only care about the user interface and have nothing to say about interaction with the database. Following Ben Mabey, I have a line in my story like: "When clicks the Create button" And a step like: When "clicks the $button button" do |button|

Rspec Stories / Selenium Nightmare
I have been using Rspec stories with Webrat feeling very productive and happy. Then I needed to do something with Selenium (Webrat could have done what I needed but it does not yet have the functionality). Selenium-core as part of a rails plugin looked nice but did not seem to fit with rspec stories. So I went the Selenium-rc route. Since Selenium uses a separate instance of rails

get method under 1.1.4 in Stories is undefined
HI, After I upgraded to RSpec 1.1.4 (from git), my stories all failed. I was using Webrat and the first thing I noticed was the ''visits'' method was gone. I then backtracked to just using ''get'' and got the same undefined method exception. I confirmed it was still working in 1.1.3 Eventually, I got it to work doing this: in my first Given: @app =

user stories for load testing?
Hi all, We''ve recently been kicking around different ideas for simulating user behaviour for the purposes of load testing our backend. We hit on the idea of having user stories do double duty for both verifying behaviour and (if selected stories were driven en-masse by a distributed network of clients) for application load testing. I googled around a bit and didn''t find

Pretty HTML reporting for stories
Hi all, I''m just getting to grips with rspec, and I''m trying to put together a showy demo. We''re trying to use the (plain text) stories feature, rather than the specs. I''d like to show off a fancy HTML report of the results if possible. So it seems I can do this from the spec command line tool, but I can''t make it work for a story. I''ve got

Stories VS Scenarios
Hi all, I have read Dan North''s post ''Whats in a Story?'' (http://dannorth.net/whats-in-a-story) but I am still having a hard time knowing when I should break requirements up into separate stories or keep them as scenarios. I am currently trying to write a story (stories) for the registration process of a site. The registration process is a multistep process that

Using the response object in stories
I have this statement in the layout of my application (using haml) - if request.env["HTTP_USER_AGENT"].include?("MSIE") = stylesheet_link_tag ''blueprint/ie.css'' = stylesheet_link_tag ''confirm_ie.css'' The problem is that request.env["HTTP_USER_AGENT"] is nil when I go to some page in the features I write with cucumber and webrat

Webrat 0.1.0 released - Ruby Acceptance Testing for Web applications
Hey guys, We developed this plugin while writing my first real set of RSpec stories. It''s still missing a lot of functionality, but it''s useful to us as is, so I''m shipping 0.1.0. (Patches welcome. :) ) Code is available at: http://svn.eastmedia.net/public/plugins/webrat/ What do you think? -Bryan Here''s the README:

Spec''ing via features
As I work with Rails TestUnit tests I am reconsidering how to use cucumber features. It seems to me that it might be best to have a coherent view of how to arrange my test suites before I get much further into this. Now, so far I have considered three possibilities: 1. Use features exclusively. Create a feature file for each model, one for each controller and possibly an additional one for

[Cucumber, Webrat] Error backtraces shown as HTML in console
Since upgrading to Cucumber 0.1.99.19 I''ve noticed that the backtraces appearing in the console output are of the form: Page load was not successful (Code: 500): Followed by the dump of the rails error page. That page looks fine in a browser, and it''s helpful enough to see it when save_and_open_page does its thing, but I''m pretty used to reading plain old

Uninitialized constant Spec:Story
Hi, I''m fairly new to Rails and v. new to RSpec. Think it looks pretty useful and so I''m trying it out for the first time. I have installed the rspec-rails gem and created a simple plain text my_story file and my_story.rb file along the lines described here - http://www.tomtenthij.co.uk/2008/1/25/rspec-plain-text-story-runner-on-a-fresh-rails-app. When I run

Failing rspec story not causing a CruiseControl.rb build to fail?
We''ve just added rspec stories to our CruiseControl.rb build. When there''s a failing scenario we see the failure in the log output, but it doesn''t cause the CruiseControl build to fail. We''ve also just upgraded to the latest rspec version, 1.1.4, which fixes rspec bug 228, but the CC.rb build is still passing. Has anyone got failing rspec stories making

Using the mock framework in story runner
Hey all, What is the easiest way to include rpec''s mocking framework into a story so I can use it? I want to use it to stub out a Net::HTTP method so I''m not making API calls every time I run my story. :) Thanks, Ben
