that's it we set:
server min protocol = NT1
client min protocol = NT1
on the DCs and we could join the domain. As soon as we set up a new
fileserver to replace the old ubuntu 12.04 we will remove the parameters
thanks for all the help

Hi Louis,
it's an old ubuntu 12.04 with samba 3.6.25. It's a fileserver with DRBD
and we have to join the server until a new one is ready to use.

Looks about right.
That said, you don't need 'client min protocol' on the DC. You need
the client max protocol on the domain member and server min protocol on
the DC to overlap.

join samba 3.6 to ad with samba.411
when we try to join we get the following error message:
Failed to join domain: failed to lookup DC info for domain #our-domain'
over rpc:NT_STATUS_INVALID_NETWORK_RESPONSE
looking up the dc and all SRV-Records is working. A "kinit
administrator" is working to.

Hi,
I had such a Problem with an old SLES 11 and Samba 3.6. I needed to enable SMB1 on the DC. Samba 4.11 disables SMB1 Boy default.

This is the next thing you should remove. The kernel is handling
everything with sockets and performance. By setting this parameter the
kernel can't set the optimal settings.
The parameter "store dos attributes is default depending of your samba4

Migrate DCs on ubuntu 14.04 to ubuntu 18.04
If you update to Ubuntu 18.04 with Samba 4.7 you will update to both old
versions. Better update to 20.04. Set up a new DC with Ubuntu 20.04 join
in your domain, after the DC is running replace your DCs step by step

SambaXP just (virtually) wrapped up.
Just wanted to say a big *THANKS* to
everyone who attended this years virtual
SambaXP conference.
SerNet did an amazing job of changing from
the usual on-site in Goettingen conference
to a virtual-only online event.
The talks were recorded and should be
available soon (I'm sure they'll let
us know when) from the SambaXP site.
I hope everyone enjoyed it, and now
I have a boatload of work

Migrate DCs on ubuntu 14.04 to ubuntu 18.04
Hi,
I'm having the following setup: 3 offices, with at least 2 DCs per office.
Every DC is running on ubuntu 14.04 with either samba 4.3.9 or 4.3.11. I'm
not the one that build these DCs but from documentation and what I'm told,
nothing fancy was done on them, just joined the domain, added
users/fileservers and group policy replication as described here:
