Group issues on AD DC, membership does not work on some users
Thank you so much for the prompt response and the valuable comments.
We are using a pretty much unmodified Zentyal installation, which in its
own turn sets everything up for a Samba DC. It might be a good idea for
us to move away from that, if Zentyal uses an EOL-version of Samba..
You were absolutely right about the sign-in part! Almost all of us work
from home in these special days, so

NTLM refuses to work on a DC
Hi there,
I'm trying to get FreeRADIUS to authenticate against my Samba DC. It's
Samba 4.7.6-ubuntu running on Ubuntu 18 (kernel version
4.15.0-66-generic). It came nicely packaged with Zentyal, which provides
a nice GUI for managing a domain, as well as a CA and lots of cool small
features. That same Zentyal also includes support for FreeRADIUS (3.0.16).
This is my smb.conf:

Might be an idea to upgrade Samba, 4.7.x is EOL as far as Samba is
concerned, you can get later Samba versions here:

Home folder permissions disappear sometimes
Hi everyone, I'm running a domain-joined fileserver with Samba 4.9.5 and
SSSD on Debian 10.
My DC is also running Samba 4.9.5 on Debian 10. I have recently joined
it to an older domain with a DC that wasn't feeling well (Zentyal with
much older Samba). Everything was working great for a while after I've
moved the FSMO roles and demoted the old DC. I don't seem to have any

L2tp and winbind - server role active directory domain controller
Uhm upgrade.. to zentyal 4.2..
Setup a member server, now enable l2tp with winbindd
That should work fine.
Winbindd can not run on the AD DC, but it does on a member server.

Odd behavior on group membership
Hi,
I have a samba 4.7 AD DC running on a Ubuntu 18.04 server with distro
packages. I update a user with a new group and this new membership is
not reflected on that user. On example below, I can successfully add the
user "test.account" to group "test", but not my user "marcio.merlone":
root at araucaria:~# id test.account
uid=30214(A1\test.account)

Somebody knows if Samba 4.1 supports to join Windows 2012 server as a
secondary DC?? Because after compiling samba 4.1 in an ubuntu server i try

Ok, I see. Does the gotcha mean that users will receive new UIDs/GIDs
and that I will have to chown files/folders and set new ACLs, or will
those bits "just work"?

Samba 4.1.6 vs Win2008R2 FSMO roles
Hi,
we're using Zentyal 3.4/Samba 4.1.6 on two machine for our AD domain.
We have to test the domain in "pure" microsoft environment, because a third
party storage system.
So I added DC and DNS role to one of our windows 2008R2, and joined it to
our domain. Everything's fine at this point.
Then I wanted transfer the 5 FSMO role to windows. Every role transferred
successfully,

other tools integrate with the other parts of the system...
And yes, I am try to join Windows 2012 R2 as member of the domain.
