Samba 4.10.13-1, AIX 7100-05-05 - winbindd not starting
Posted some time ago on 4.6 - updated it to 4.10.13-1 as released by IBM.
Added a Kerberos configuration file, updated smb.conf, changed the startup
order to nmbd first, winbindd next, then smbd.
Now nmbd and smbd start, while winbindd does not.

Samba on AIX 7.1
Has anyone successfully installed and configured Samba as a domain member
from the various RPM's offered from the IBM Toolbox website?
Can you offer any advice for getting it up and running?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Rowland,
The wiki suggested doing "smbd -b | grep HAVE_LIBACL" and expecting to get back "HAVE_LIBACL".
This is not the case on our IBM system with 4.10.6.
The current version from IBM is 4.10.13 - considering upgrading in the hopes "HAVE_LIBACL" is present if I really need it.
On the other hand, "smbd -b" does report that smbd was built with vfs_aixacl

Samba 4.10.13-1 as a domain member, AIX 7100-05-05
Please disregard unless this conclusion is wrong.
We would be running in AD mode, not NT4 mode with Server 2016.

The smbd ran away with the spoon...
It seems that my smbd process got fuxed somehow. It appears to have
take up all the file handles, and there were over 130 smbd processes
running on the system. I'm not entirely sure what happened. My first
thought is that something bad happened between the server and the
Windows client that's running Kaza (with a couple hundred mid-download
files) and it just spiraled out of control,

Samba 4.10.13-1 as a domain member, AIX 7100-05-05
In perusing Red Hat manuals for a different issue with Red Hat, this was in
their RHEL 7 documentation:
You can run Samba as:
* An Active Directory (AD) or NT4 domain member
* A standalone server
* An NT4 Primary Domain Controller (PDC) or Backup Domain Controller
(BDC)
NOTE
Red Hat supports these modes only in existing installations with Windows
versions which support NT4 domains.

Winbind failure
Folks,
I am setting up a server to use cups printing and samba to communicate
with windows. Samba appeared to be working for a little while and then
for some reason stopped working. Looking at the log files I see the
following:
[2007/07/10 12:49:16, 0] smbd/server.c:main(986)
standard input is not a socket, assuming -D option

In some spare time, been trying to get Samba 4.10.6-1 working on AIX.
Several earlier posts handled by Louis and Rowland. Which were much
appreciated and beneficial.

Kerberos+Ldap+Samba+Cups
Hi all,
I installed a Linux box to enter in NT domain. I installed Kerberos5,
cups 1.1.23 and samba 3.0.24. I'm trying to integrate my box to print
in a shared printer in a Windows Server, using a kerberos ticket. I
put a URI: smb://192.168.0.3/printer?k=true in cups admin config, but
this not work. I get a error when restart in log.smbd:

Samba SSSD Integration
Was hoping for a helping hand. Trying to set up Samba on a domain member server. The member server was previously joined to the kerberized domain using realm join and a system keytab file exists in the /etc.
Subsequently I added samba along with winbind not being entirely sure if the latter was needed. This is a Redhat 7.4 server. My smb.conf appears as follows.

Authenticating against AD not working
Hi,
We have a Windows 2000 domain controller using active directory. I would like to authenticate users against it, but it's not working. I've been trying for 2 weeks without much luck. Any (and I do mean ANY) help would be greatly appreciated.
My linux box: Linux cptapp01 2.6.10-5-386 #1 Tue Apr 5 12:12:40 UTC 2005 i686 GNU/Linux (Ubuntu)
My samba: Version 3.0.20

Winbind panic - bug #5551 not completely solved in version 3.0.31?
I started my AD-member server with the DC not being present.
Afterwards, I executed the "good practice" sequence from the howtos for
testing a installation:
"testparm ..."
"nmblookup -d ..."
"nmblookup -M ..."
"nmblookup __SAMBA__ ..."
"smbclient -L ..."
And some domain tests:
"net ads testjoin"
"net ads lookup"

Samba-4.10.13 IPv6 turn it off
I am working on a FreeBSD jail (12.1p4) using samba410. I have joined this
service to our existing Samab DC DOMAIN using samba-tool domain join. This
worked as far as I can tell.
I have these entries in smb4.conf
# BOF
# Global parameters
[global]
netbios name = SAMBA-02
realm = BROCKLEY-2016.HARTE-LYNE.CA
server role = active directory domain controller
workgroup = BROCKLEY-2016
