cat /var/lib/samba/private/dns_update_list | grep ldap
${IF_RWDC}SRV _ldap._tcp.${DNSDOMAIN} ${HOSTNAME} 389
${IF_RWDC}SRV _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.${DNSDOMAIN} ${HOSTNAME} 389

Moving FSMO roles doesnt affect srv records in DNS ?.
We've added an extra DC for redundancy to the Debian based Active Directory.
We updated our older smaba version to the current one, and joined a new DC.
Then the commands where givven to move all the FSMO roles
Which we verified with "samba-tool fsmo show", which showed that all roles are on the new DC.
However in DNS all underscore srv records of the AD services still point to the

Yes, one PDC_Emulator, one dns record.

On a samba AD DC, the samba_dnsupdate script is run at start up and then
every 10 minutes, this script uses a file called dns_update_list

problems with sysvol after fsmo transfer
Thank you so far. But unfortunately I could not fix the problems. So I
decided to start over again at a situation where all the fsmo roles
resides on the old controller.
Here is a transcript of what I did and the errors reported:

Missing DNS entry in an AD-DC provision.
Hi Rowland,
I'm here at the Microsoft plugfest trying to help
a vendor join a Samba AD-DC (I just did a standard
local provision on my laptop using the internal DNS
server).
They fail due to looking for a DNS name of:
_ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.sambadom.example.com
(I provisioned with the standard realm name
of sambadom.example.com).
Should we be creating this record on provision ?
It seems

pdc emulator dns record missing after transferring role
Hi Alex
I've had the same DNS manager issue. I've opened a bug
(https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14310) and reported on the
mailing list (https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2020-March/228772.html)
No fix yet.

DC replacement and DNS issue
Hi all,
I posted on both mailing as this seems to be (to me) an internal issue.
As the 4.3.1 went out I decided to switch my DC from 4.3.0 to this new
version.
The process was to install Samba 4.3.1 on new systems, joining these Samba
as DC, seizing FSMO roles, demote all 4.3.0.
The few I tested until now is working except for DNS entries:
samba_dnsupdate is not working as it tries to update

This is probably because you will be running the command from the RODC
on the RWDC.

DC replacement and DNS issue
Hey,
Thank you Louis for this script, I didn't yet took time to dig in but I'll
do.
I didn't took time neither to perform another test. That should be done
today.
Anyway I waited for DC synchronisation before posting. I joined my DC and
removed the old ones almost at same time then I gave more than 12 hours to
my DC to synchronize. Then I tried to understand what happened, I wrote

AD RODC not being used because of missing DNS entries?
Hi,
We have encountered these timeout issues with Samba 4.7 as an RODC too.
We created a ticket about it here :
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13502
One thing is that even after the timeouts got resolved, I still get a
weird behaviour with two entries that keeps trying to update themselves
when I run "samba_dnsupdate". The call succeeds, but the entries are

pdc emulator dns record missing after transferring role
Rowland,
I've encountered an issue with connecting to the samba DC's DNS service from DNS
Manager tool (under Windows). It says "Active Directory service is not
available".
While digging into it, I've found the samba rpc worker throws an error:
[pid 18398] geteuid() = 0

dnsupdate failed with TKEY is unaceptable
Ah i see..
/usr/local/samba/private/dns.keytab
Thats the "old" path..
Your using bind9 you should have:
/usr/local/samba/bind-dns/dns.keytab
dont forget to set the needed rights on bind-dns folder.
On road, cant look deeper in it.
Greetz,
Louis
