Demoting offline DC on 4.3.11-Ubuntu
I have recently added a DC to my AD - Former DC was Samba 4.1.6, new DC is 4.3.11 (latest supported by Ubuntu). There's also a Window 2008 server I had tried to join as an AD - that server, wouldn't completely join and replicate to the 4.1.6 samba AD, and now it will not Un-join the AD "domain" either via dcpromo. This brings me to my actual question - Now that I have

after demoting a dc question
In the event demoting a DC caused an issue due to an error (yes, on the user part) could the demoted DC be re-joined to allow correction of the issue? Or should one never rejoin a demoted DC? -- Thank you. Bob Wooden

Issues demoting a samba DC.

Now it's time to demote: ai# samba-tool domain demote -U mjt-adm Using svdcp.tls.msk.ru as partner server for the demotion Password for [TLS\mjt-adm]: Deactivating inbound replication Asking partner server

Issues with demoting a DC (contd): drs kcc doesn't help?
After force-demoting a DC yesterday, I've had one more issue with 3rd DC in our forest. Before the demotion, there were 3 DCs, say, a0, a1 and b (a* were on site A and b were on site B). I force-demoted a0 from a1. And after that, replication on b weren't working. samba-tool drs showrepl on b did show list of *inbound* connections from a0 (which does not exist anymore), with a lot of

Error Demoting DC Windows from Domain
If your replication is good and all is verified, you can turn off the windows DC. I suggest, leave everyting as is. Wait 3-5 days. Verify you logs. Meanwhile, read https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Demoting_a_Samba_AD_DC Then when you 100% sure, you can remove it. Demoting and remoting a DC with same hostname.
Hello samba team ! As you know https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2017-June/209112.html during the upgrade from Debian Jessie to Debian Stretch all my three DCs have lost their machine password. Or something is corrupted in the machine password database. So the DRS stopped working. To try to repair safely the issue I have virtualised the three machines. Here what I have tried : -> the

Cleanup after demoting an offline DC
Hi, I demoted an outdated and offline DC following to: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Demoting_a_Samba_AD_DC Everthing appears to work well but there is still one, perhaps minor, question regarding to the dns SOA-record: The zone _msdcs.samdom.example.com still lists the demoted server in the SOA record. Is it ok to manually change it to fsmo holder dc or an other dc? Thanks in advance

However, sometimes problems arise between Windows Server 2008 and Samba 4 records, usually related to attributes of 2 or 3 specific computers. I edit the Samba registry with ldbedit and everything is OK. After a
