Have a Linux Mint 19.1 with Samba 4.7.6 installed. Plan is to use this as a file server. Cannot connect from Windows 10. Win 10 sees the share but says group name could not be found. Which shows you are running as a standalone server. You should remove the '@' from the 'valid user'. Does the user 'gc55_data2' exist on the Linux Mint machine & on the Windows Computer ? I have been noticing an issue with file permissions and curious as to your thoughts on this. In the one directory the files started as... ...a 777 file was users[100] and root...now they are gc[1002] and fred_smith [1005], but the permissions changed to 764. I have a mask as 775, but this does not seem to be the case??? Here is my smb.conf...curious as to what I may have wrong on this???

Samba Guru's, As a point of clarification in our Samba setup... We are currently running Samba 4.3.11 on Ubuntu Server 16.04. When running smbstatus it shows the following... Windows 7 machines connect showing SMB2_10. Windows 10 machines connect showing Unknown (0x0311). Supposedly Windows 10 machines should show SMB3_11. Where could i find some info to explain samba file permissions??? With most of the regular files that are on the server, life is good and fairly responsive. We are still using Visual Foxpro databases and at first things are responsive, but as time goes on it seems to bog down with multiple users...any thoughts are appreciated??? Tom
