Samba 4.11.6 cannot JOIN - 'Could not find machine account'
A small update... I was able to remove the "Cannot reach a KDC" errors by disabling Apparmor. However, the original WERR_DNS_ERROR_RCODE_NAME_ERROR error remains and is now the first error in the log. > Thanks for the help with this, Rowland. > > > Where these 2008 DCs upgraded from an earlier version ? Samba 4.11.6 cannot JOIN - 'Could not find machine account'
Hi Rowland, > Can you try the join command like this: > samba-tool domain join office.example.com DC -UAdministrator > --password=TheActualPassword --dns-backend=BIND9_DLZ > Rowland When I run samba-tool like this without specifying the server, it chooses the older backup server that runs Server 2008 (named PE2600). Joining to this server results in a different error: .... INFO

New trick for old dogs
We have been using Samba for many years. The company has just switched from an NT domain to an Active Directory domain. The new server is running Windows Server 2003. We are having trouble configuring our Solaris 8 server so it can join the domain as a server. Just getting Samba to compile and link was interesting enough. This included downloading and compiling a new version of the BerkeleyDB,

Error joining Samba 4.7.4 DC to existing Win2008R2 domain
Tried again to join, now with full cleanup of /var/lib/samba/private folder on new server... same error. Anyone have an idea of what's going wrong? Thanks for the time you're dedicating to solving my issue. > Is your WORKGROUP really the same as your dnsdomain ? > So, the command should be: > samba-tool domain join samdom.local DC -U Administrator --dns-backend=BIND9_DLZ --verbose -d3 I've replaced log sensitive data before posting it (replacing real domain name with SAMDOM), but replace was case-insensitive so

Error joining Samba 4.7.4 DC to existing Win2008R2 domain
Tested again to join, now clearing both Kerberos, Samba config and Samba private folder. The new log now has some more details (resolve_lmhosts: Attempting lmhosts lookup for name SRVAD-OLD.SAMDOM.LOCAL<0x20>), but I'm still not able to join. Wonder why is it trying to do an lmhosts lookup, 4.6 is not. An identical server (with same hostname and IP) with Samba 4.6 joins without

Error joining Samba 4.7.4 DC to existing Win2008R2 domain
Can you specify the full DN of the DNS record in question? Afterwards, maybe you can also try deleting that DNS record and retry the join? Failed to find machine account is almost certainly an unrelated debug message. I don't think it has any relation to your issue.
