Changes in share permissions lead to disruption of service
I just had something very strange happening, I'm curious if someone can understand what it was in spite of the limited available information. I'm running Samba 4.11.6 as an AD file server. Rowland checked my config recently and could not find any issue with it, it's really very standard, using the idmap backend. Only 2 users in the AD. Linux access is not a topic, the shares are only

smbd - wide links / possible buffer failure??
Hello there, sorry - my first mail seems to be lost? Might be I am wrong, but it seems that the behavior of wide link option has been changed since 2.2.7. So we have some problems on our large side to upgrade to 2.2.8a. Here is what I found, but it may be not the intention of samba developer! There ist a new function called readlink_checkin smbd/vfs.c. In this function is a pattern compare

samba-2.2.3a bug, including fix
Hi - here's how to reproduce the problem. umask 22 mkdir foo chmod 311 foo mkdir foo/baz echo hello > foo/baz/test.txt then type the path to test.txt into Windows explorer (for example) - can't browse to it as foo isn't readable, but you can get there by typing the path as there's search permission. It works, but generates: [2002/02/20 09:49:47, 0]

access denied to home directory
Hi All, I'm running Samba 2.2.7a on Solaris 8. Since installing 2.2.7, we've been having a problem where occassionally (starting to happen more) users are denied access to their home directory. They are able to login and their roaming profile is downloaded (which is in their [homes] share). But as soon as they try to get to their home directory, they get an access denied error.

Any long-time CentOS users on list using Ubuntu as well?
I've gotten roped into helping a local charity with some computing/infrastructure snafus. It seems their last good Samaritan installed Ubuntu all over the place and is "unavailable" now to clean up the mess. CentOS has made me somewhat lazy because everything just works out of the box for the most part and you've got the occasional "yum update". :) These are

When we restart the server everything works fine for a few days again.

question/problem - SAMBA server dies
Hi there, I'm running Solaris 8 on a Sun420R with SAMBA 2.2.2 ... Periodically, at least once a week - roughly, my SAMBA server dies. I'm not able to completely troubleshoot this yet because the early birds in my office are most efficient and run the samba.server restart utility before I get in ... (per my instruction; however now I've asked them to hold off if there is no urgency).
