Building a replacement Samba4 server to replace a Samba3 system, running into file rights issues.
I am building a Samba4 setup to replace a Samba3 server I built for small non profit school back in 2012. It is running CentOS 6.x, samba version 3.6.23-52.el6_10.? Rather than attempt to upgrade this system to Samba4, it makes more sense (to me at least) to build a new server and move the data. Currently I have 2 samba servers running as virtual machines under kvm.? One is the AD server,

3.0.24 and disappearing ACL entries
I've been working at this for a few days now and I can't figure out what is broken. Google turns up similar issues from years back, but I hope this is a bug resurfacing. ACL entries are being deleted when files are saved. Here is an example: username: user1 group membership: Domain Users directory: /share/test file: test.xls getfacl /share # file: share # owner: DOMAIN+backupuser #

Samba3 ACL problem with Windows XP
Hello! A good day to you all. i seem to be experiencing a quirk with my test setup, as i am unable to delete files/folders even with the proper ACL entries. i am using the stock samba 3 package on FC4(samba-3.0.14a-2), and have set up winbind authentication against a Windows NT 4 PDC. i've created two users, user1 and user2, which have their primary group set to group1(gid=16777221) as

Share will Domain Users Full Control permissions, not accessible by domain user
Hello, I'm really stumped and would greatly appreciate some help. *Situation* I have a couple windows 10 pro hosts that I have joined to a Samba4 AD domain. I have created 3 users in the domain, one that is a member of Domain Admins and two that are only members of the Domain Users group. I have two samba shares (details below) on a separate samba file server. The share permissions were

problem with home share permissions
Hi, I tried to set up home share as described in https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_a_home_share ( centos 6.5 samba 4.1.7 ) with rsat tool but user1 can read and write on user2 folder and vice versa I think the problem is that the new users folders are created with rwx permissions for group users but I do not know how to avoid this. Thank you my smb.conf [global] workgroup =

netbios alias and AD trouble
Hello there I've got two samba servers srv1 and srv2 smb.conf for srv1: netbios aliases srv1-alias smb.conf for srv2: netbios aliases srv2-alias DNS is configured all right and resolves the names. Each name has got its own IP address. Both servers are AD members, run as expected and can be connected to via their netbios and netbios alias names. If, for example, srv1 fails I want to add

Weird access problem to files
We've recently upgraded a S3 to Samba4 with AD (4.3.11-Ubuntu). The access control on the old installation was done with "valid users" and "write list". We've ported this to ACL, but for some path users are denied access and we cannot understand why. I.e. for a generic share, user "user1" can browse and access almost everything except for directory

security settings on [home] share for use in member server
Hi all, I am referring to the official wiki here: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_a_home_share#Setting_up_the_share_and_filesystem_permissions I was struggling around for many hours before I have found out what caused my issue. Well, I have created the [home] share exactly as epxlained on the How-To, in detail: I am creating on the linux prompt at the member server the directory with

Upgrading from V3.0 production system to V3.3
Before I undertake this upgrade I thought I would see if anyone has any advice on how to do this on a production system. Maybe someone has already "fought this dragon". Current config Gluster V3.0.0. Home Folder ( extra tip )
Just a tip. If you create users with RSAT and you also uses unix id's ( UID/GID ) Used with AD backend. The first assign the UID/GID and then apply the home dir folders in RSAT. Only for user home dirs. This can help if you also use ssh to login and you cant enter your own home dir. Per example: Your ACL ( for the user ) > # File: rs-01 / > # Owner: administrator > # Group:

Problems with inconsistent ACL inheritance and permissions after Samba upgrade
I've just upgraded a Samba AD server to 4.10.2 a few weeks ago from 4.x (I'm afraid I'm not sure the exact earlier version) - and since then I just haven't managed to pin down the file permissions and inheritance on the shares as it's been constantly causing issues. This server is both a file server and a AD DC. The current problem I am facing is the permissions of the

Roaming Profiles with Windows ACLs
I've set up a profiles share according to the wiki article: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Implementing_roaming_profiles Users are able to create new roaming profiles and they cannot browse each others' profiles, so all that is working. The only issue is that the group "domain admins" does not have privileges to read or delete user profiles. The acls on the profiles directory
