Trying to preserve UID and GID when backing up with rsync
Hi all I am trying to use rsync as part of a backup solution for a machine with multiple users. The intention is to run rsyncd on a different server with typically different user IDs. I also intend to run rsync from the client as root and essentially back up the following: /etc/passwd /etc/shadow /etc/group /home In the event of a disaster we would reprovision the machine then restore the user

wbinfo -r 'username' displays inconsistent results across DC's
Hello,     Looking up a users group membership I'm showing different results on each DC. UID and GID mapping appears consistent but not all group membership is displayed. I've verified idmap.ldb is backup up and copied over to the other DC's. I do notice when taking a hot backup of idmap.ldb, the file size is dramatically smaller than the original. Using Microsoft RSAT to view

Consistent UID/GID mappings?
Greetings everyone, I am currently in the process of trying to setup Samba4 as an Active Directory DC. My environment contains about 50% of Windows workstations, and 50% of Centos servers/Ubuntu workstations. Everything setup quite nicely, with Windows workstations and Linux machines being able to logon with a domain user. The problem I have is I can't seem to be able to get consistent UIDs

SSO Samba/AD integration
OK, I'm certain that this topic has been beat to death, but I need some assistance. I am trying to migrate to a SSO for the majority of our workstations and servers within our organization. I am currently trying to integrate a Gentoo Linux workstation to authenticate to the AD server. Once I get the process nailed down, I'll be moving on to bigger and better things... Prior to

XEN 4.0.2-rc2 - using OCAML xenstored -- xend not starting?
Hi All, I just tried a new installation of Ubuntu 10.04 (64bit) + Xen and am having some trouble starting XEN. I am using the latest mercurial checkout (4.0.2-rc2) and the only change I made was to Config.mk to enable building the OCAML version of xenstored. " CONFIG_OCAML_XENSTORED ?= y". I am using the same kernel I built earlier for a similar Ubuntu 10.04-64bit / Xen 4.0.0

Dovecot 1.2 - Quotas - Ignoring Trash folder
Hello guys, Firstly I would like to state that I am fairly new to Dovecot. I have played around with it in the past here and there but mainly with debian packages. I have compiled this version of Dovecot from source, so please go easy with me. Ok now down to my questions: I am having trouble getting Dovecot to 'ignore' the Trash folder when summing up the used quota for a user.

Samba AD and NIS integration
I have questions regarding the operation of AD and integrating NIS or LDAP with it. I have a small heterogenous network consisting of various computing devices running either Windows 10 pro or a flavour of Linux. I am setting up a NAS box running Debian Stretch and Samba 4.5.12 to be the central file server and authenticator for the network, including LDAP aware software such as owncloud. I have

primary group gets set to 100 on Samba AD server after a while

correct is not much different, but you need a "correct" config.   now your config is simpley wrong. ( sorry )   This proves it. one question..          idmap config * : backend = rid          idmap config * : range = 100000-999999 can you write you "rid" to the samba AD.. No.        # - must use an read-write-enabled back end, such as tdb.   you need also : # idmap config
