Migrate DCs on ubuntu 14.04 to ubuntu 18.04
Hi, I'm having the following setup: 3 offices, with at least 2 DCs per office. Every DC is running on ubuntu 14.04 with either samba 4.3.9 or 4.3.11. I'm not the one that build these DCs but from documentation and what I'm told, nothing fancy was done on them, just joined the domain, added users/fileservers and group policy replication as described here:

Looks about right. That said, you don't need 'client min protocol' on the DC. You need the client max protocol on the domain member and server min protocol on the DC to overlap. Linux/Windows Domain Controller
Yes I've red this section and the docu is saying no FL above 2008. Might be caused by incompleted docu? So far I understand if we don't use >4.19 we will not be able to use FL 2016 which is necessary since our DC WIN22 is configured as FL2016? Roaming Profiles
Hello, I created a GPO Roaming Profiles redirection in my AD as shown on this page (https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Roaming_Windows_User_Profiles#The_Windows_Roaming_Profile_Versions). The data are stored in a sharing file server (samba member domain). When I open a windows user session it doesn't work. Event observer says "Access denied". So I changed 'chmod 1750

Debian11 Samba backport and bind9
Hi to all, Is there a known problem when using Debian 11 together with the samba packages from the backports (4.17.4) and the bind9 from the backports (9.18). With me it comes on each further Domaincontroller to errors with the "samba_dnsupdate --verbose --all-names". If I install Bind9 in version 9.16 everything works. I have the whole thing running in a Vagrant environment and can

Hi all I just installed the the ADMX-fils for the Linux-GPOs. IBut when I look at the Group Policy Editor below "samba" I only see "Unix Setting -> Scripts". "smb.conf", "Messages", "sudo-files" are missing. If I take a look at the admx-file itself all the options are in the file. I uses Sernet Samba 4.18.4 on Debian 12 I already did a

ID Mapping
Hi, I have a Samba 4.11.8 system running as an AD and a file server and I am wondering what sort of ID mapping is done in this situation. I have uidNumber on each user set to use UIDs in the 1000 range but I find that they end up in the 3000000 range instead. Is this a fixable problem, or a result of having the file server and DC as the same machine? Thanks. -- Daniel O'Connor "The

deprecate pdb_ldap and "NT4-like" domains in Samba 4.13 to allow removal for Samba 4.14 in March 2021?
With all the recent talk about ldap stacks, I wondered if we could discuss deprecating and eventually removing pdb_ldap? The reason is that pdb_ldap is primary user of smbldap. smbldap is in turn yet another of our ldap stacks (I have found four so far), in the sense that while it uses OpenLDAP under the hood, it replicates with libads, ldb and tldap the 'get AD-thing out of an LDAP

Updating Samba AD from 4.1 to latest stable
Hi All, After reading the list for a while I have a question myself. I have the task of upgrading a couple of systems and one of them is the office AD infrastructure from a Samba-4.1 installation to the latest stable version. I already did a concept of proof by incrementally compiling versions 4.2/3/4/5/etc to the then latest stable 4.10 and it seemed to work out OK but was a lot of work. I had a
