Samba winbind getgroups lookup
Thank you Rowland for your reply. My knowledge is limited with Samba
so please forgive me for any basic mistakes :)
This is something was setup by a previous admin.
We have had issues where "winbind" will just "give up" and won't let
anyone login into the host not even from the console.
I would like to fix that problem so started to investigate the
configs. I don't

Samba winbind getgroups lookup
SSSD is not installed but I did remove it from nsswitch.conf. I still
see winbind always doing the group lookup for local user.

Samba winbind getgroups lookup
Ok. Wondering if it fix by changing the idmap backend to "ad" ?
Is "ad" backend a better option than "rid" since we have MS AD or otherwise ?
My next task is to ensure PAM is setup correctly with winbind. I'm
going to validate the PAM configs.
Do you have any recommendations of PAM / winbind settings?
We also having "nscd" running for the DNS host

winbind lookup errors
Hello Samba folks,
I have recently begun seeing some disturbing behavior from winbind.
Winbind will fail to look up users and groups. Examples:
The machine is configured to use winbind as a nss module.
"getent passwd <username>" will yield no results.
"wbinfo -n <username>" will yield "Could not lookup name <username>"
"wbinfo -g"

User idmap lost
Back on February 28, 2018, I started a thread "User permissions of
profile/home directory lost" describing a problem occurring with my
wife's user account. Since that time the random problem has persisted so
I turned on some debugging. I have been able to determine that somehow
her account idmap is broken. Here is the entry for my wife's SID as
found in the idmap.ldb file

Samba 3.5.6 pam problems
Hi,
I've setup Samba 3.5.6 as a member server in a 2003R2 domain with a
single dc, idmapping is by rfc2307 with a tdb backend for builtin
accounts etc, I can list users and groups using wbinfo and I can
create shares and access them from the windows server, files and
folders owned by ad users show the correct user and group names so
mapping appears to be working, I can su to ad accounts but I

Samba 4.2.10 AD DC not resolving user groups anymore
Hi list,
I just upgraded an AD DC from 4.1.17 to 4.2.10 (using jessie package),
wbinfo -r someuser now fails randomly (well not THAT randomly I guess it
depends on group membership)
$ wbinfo -r oneuser
failed to call wbcGetGroups: WBC_ERR_DOMAIN_NOT_FOUND
Could not get groups for user oneuser
$ wbinfo -r anotheruser
[list of GIDs]
wbinfo -u & wbinfo -g returns no error
wbinfo -i oneuser

IDMAP dump and restore for second server.
Hello all.
I use Samba 3.6.3 on FreeBSD in combination with ZFS, and it all works fine.
I use zfs send to receive my store on a backup machine and i want the users id to be the same as on the master server so to say.
Keeps my backups easy accessable with samba!
Now i know i can dump the IDMAP database using the following: net idmap dump.
I expect a whole bunch of lines, but i get the following,

We have set up the samba system to integrate in our AD Domain.
Integration was successfull (net ads join), wbinfo executes with parameters

Our smb.conf content follows at the end of this mail.
We have defined just one share as follows:
[smbtest]
writeable = yes
