migrating Samba PDC to a new server
Hi, I'd like to migrate Samba 3.0.24-6etch10 PDC running on a Debian server to a new Ubuntu server. I plan to install Samba 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.4 on the new server and then copy the files in /etc/samba and /var/lib/samba and copy the related Linux users in /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow. Will it work? Thanks in advance! ----- -- Kent Tong Wicket tutorials freely available at

Hi Rowland, I tried to set that option but still same result. I recreated the setup in old debian wheezy 7.11 and it's working. set the log level = 10 'abcd' is the user account then i noticed this in /var/log/samba/log.10.0.2.15 = the ip of the samba server, i am issuing the smbclient in the samba server itself. Unix User found. Rid marked as special and sid (S-1-22-1-12658) saved

Louis is right, you should upgrade, but, in the meantime, try adding 'ntlm auth = yes' to your smb.conf, see if that helps. > > Also try running the following commands: > > net getlocalsid > > net getdomainsid > > Rowland > Yes they should upgrade, I totally agree. PDC -> BDC Question
Hi Everyone, I was wondering I am setting up a BDC at another physically separate location on a different subnet, and I am currently working on what files I need to have copied between the computers and which need to be made on each server. The specific question I am dealing with is what TDB files I need to replicate filesystems between the two servers. Below is a list of what the files I

Server-Profile only applied when domain user gets Admin privileges on WinXP
After upgrade from 3.0.x to 3.4.3 (on new hardware) profiles only apply when the domain users are Members of the local WinXP admin group!? The Account behaves like a guest account - Modifications can not be saved (e.g. the left side of the XP/SP3 task menu remains empty, Control Panel can not be changed to classic view, .). No problems at all with profiles created unter samba version 3.4.3.

pdbedit will only add users to the local machine domain, not the global domain
Hello all, When I try to add a user to my secrets.tdb file on my Samba 3.2.0 PDC, the users are always added under the local machine domain, not the global domain. That is, if my PDC machine name is srv1, and it is PDC for the domain DOM1, then whenever I add a user using "pdbedit -a -u username", then that user gets placed under the local domain SRV1, not the global domain DOM1. So my
