how to increase DNS reliability?
This brings up one of the caveats for (at least ISC) DNS, if the master goes down the slaves will take over for a time but eventually will stop serving for the domains of the master if it remains down too long. If my (sometimes faulty) memory serves me well it is in the three day range (but configurable) which is ample time unless the problem occurs early in a holiday weekend and and the

Forwarder all reverse zones that AD DNS not authoritative
hi folks, To forward everything that does not belong to AD (subdomain ad.domain.intra) to the domain "domain.intra" I configured an entry as show below in named.conf.local zone "domain.intra" IN { type forward; forward only; forwarders { 172.16.1.10; }; # ns1.domain.intra }; Within this network (172.16.1.0/24) I have dc1 (dc1.ad.domain.intra), dc2

Samba4 internal DNS - can't resolve extrenal hosts
Hello List, I am facing a probelm whereby my Samba4 internal DNS does not resolve external addresses: # host www.google.com Host www.google.com not found: 3(NXDOMAIN) The answer is immediate - so there's no timeout issue here. Internal resolution as described in the wiki to test the Samba AD DNS functions like host -t SRV _kerberos._udp.samba.mydomain.com host -t SRV

BIND9/DNS lookups stopped working after upgrading our Comcast modem/gateway
OK here's our setup, we're running pfSense as our firewall/router. We have a dual-WAN with a Comcast Business Gateway and another local ISP. We're running Samba 4.7.6 as the AD DC & Bind 9.9.4. Here's the issue, we just upgraded our Comcast service to a higher speed & they replaced the modem/gateway. Everything was working fine, before the modem swap. Once they did

split horizon and authoritative answers..?
Hai, Have you ever tried this with a systemd networking setup. I suggest you try this, this at least helped me with some split dns issues. Below shows how i did it. Configure you network with system, the configs.. #/etc/systemd/network/lan-dev.network # # Configure global settings in /etc/systemd/*.conf # # Dont forget : rm /etc/resolv.conf && ln -s /run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf

internal DNS not forwarding
Yes, i believe you hitted "not" having the "root zone" in internal DNS. If i recall correctly its somewhere in 4.4. or 4.5 fix. But as Rowland said, i suggest also upgrading. ps other fix is, switch to bind9_DLZ But again i still advice to upgrade. internal DNS not forwarding
Yes, all these work here also (! With bind9_dlz ) nslookup nasa.org $(hostname -i) ( running the command on the DC itself.) nslookup nasa.org 1.1.1.1 nslookup nasa.org 8.8.8.8 Old samba version without the root zone provisioned maybe? That is an old bug. Which samba version is this? Greetz, Louis > -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- > Van: samba [mailto:samba-bounces at
