Samba4 computers not on W10 Network
My Samba4 computers (DC's & member server) are not shown within W10 File
Explorer Network. Only the other workstations appear.
I believe this is due to smb1 being depreciated.
All the folder redirection still works, gpo, etc. Domain users can log in.
What do I need to adjust so these machines appear in smb2?
(I know this has been talked about before sorry.)

Changes to Folder Redirection
I am having some issues that I believe might be related to folder
redirection that has prompted me to review my folder redirection GPO
settings.
On the "Configuring Windows Profile Folder Redirections" page of the
Samba WIKI I find an 'information box' that says, /"//Windows does not
support dynamically-generated user home folders provided by the Samba
[homes] section.

Samba related question??
Somewhat Samba related, I ask this question (that might be over the line
and into Windows territory) but, here I go . . .
Of those user on this mailing list that manage Samba installs for various
clients/customers, what are your most used GPO policies you have put into
place for AD management?
I ask because, when you venture over into Windows world and start reading

adding Windows client reverse dns entries
Once again, reading here and there and I am confused.
I thought the W clients (both W7 and W10) reverse dns PTR records where
added by the ADDC automatically.
This mornings testing (nslookup of client IP addresses) is not finding
clients via their IP addresses. (Forward lookups via hostname work
fine.)
Do we (users of samba4) need to add each W client to our dns servers?

retire first member server Administrator account complaint
I have been working towards retiring my first member server. (Sernet
4.2.14??) Moved all the user files, checked and double checked the ACL's
and all seems good.
My users redirect folders to my member servers with a GPO policy. I use
roaming profiles (again via GPO) that have been confirmed as working
properly against the newer member server (running Samba 4.5.3 from
source.)
Now, the

Changes to Folder Redirection
So, what is the difference between "Using Group Policy Folder
Redirection" and "Using a Group Policy Preference"? Is it an either/or
and _NOT both_ scenario?
Clearly the ". . . Policy Preference" is editing the registry settings
of each workstation with a GPO. Something the " . . . Policy Folder
Redirection" does not do.
Is not "Using a Group

Puppet Modules from Forge
Hello all,
I have some questions about the download puppet modules from puppetforge:
I''ll take puppetlabs-dism as an example, once its installed its located:
/etc/puppetlabs/puppet/modules/dism
Can this be renamed to something else ?
Also if for example, I had a folder tree under modules e.g.
/etc/puppetlabs/puppet/modules/windows

userou= question
Yes, thank you for the guidance.
Regarding "*You do not put the users password here (if that is what you are
trying to do): --password=PASSWORD1*"
My experience has been this, no matter where I put "--password=" in the
string, after the "user" as the manpage suggests or the end. When I run the
create string I am asked for a "New Password:' and then

Member server losing smb connection
I have a member server running Ubuntu 16.10, Samba 4.4.5 that is serving
files to W10 and W7 clients. Things appear fine and suddenly the server
share disappears and the W clients "cannot see" the server. The client
error message is: "The device or resource (member hostname) is nt setup

creating and copying users
This topic may have been discussed many times, sorry to repeat here.
I have been trying various combinations of adding test users via ADUC. The
first three (3) added fine. Then the strange began. Many, many W10 client
re-starts throughout these process to make client capture any changes from
servers.
In one case, create the user, give him/her a password. Login from W10
client. Logout of W10

GPO issues - getting SYSVOL cleaned up again
One more i found is :

But i dont expect that to be your problem, just do checkit.
And review these steps

I can type it all, but then you get more typo's ;-)

creating and copying users
Rowland,
I remember now, you and I have been here before and I have lost the email.
Due to the manner that linux handles backslashes "\" users need to
backslash *around* the backslash you need for W10 like so, "\\\\FQDN" to
get "\FQDN" on the W10 path?
Therefore, the following is what I want:
"--profile-path=\\dtmbr04.ad.dtntwk.work\profiles\sttest11

Is a mixed MS/Samba DC environment doable?
Hi
I'd like to learn more on the pros and cons of a mixed domain that consists
of both MS and Samba domain controllers and member servers.
What I have learnt so far is this;
I created a new lab domain with an MS DC 2019. I then added a Samba 4.19-3
file server as a domain member w/o any issues.
The clients are 2 Win 10 VM's for tests of shares, GPO's and related
technologies. Still
