CMYK color space
dear R experts---I am struggling with the requirements to prepare my files for my printers. I am printing in 2/2 format, which means cyan and black for me, which they take from my color-separated pdf files. R comes into play, because it produces all the figures that are embedded in my book (pdflatex). now, TeX has no problems producing CMYK files. However, R produces RGB files (for

[R] color palette from red to blue passing white (shifted from R-help)
Hi, The move to sRGB is nice, is there any interest in adding an interface to lcms, http://www.littlecms.com, to allow gamut matching? I can think of a lot of instances where I would like to render a figure as it would appear on my printer. This is probably best done as a separate package though, at least at first. Application crashes when opening a graphics window under Wine
I am trying to run a Win32 application, Stable32, under wine. This application does analysis of numeric data files and can plot the data to the screen. When it does this, it opens a new window for the plot. Under wine, the application starts just fine and the basic functions seem to work, but every time I try to use one of the plot functions, the application crashes. This is the message it

R plots pdf() does not allow spotcolors?
Hi We are about to publish a book, which contains figures made with R plots. An important detail that we did not take into account is that the book will not be printed in 4 colors (cmyk mode), but only 2 (black +"spotcolor"). The spotcolor we use is part of the big Pantone family. The problem is that both pdf() and postscript() offer either rgb or cmyk, but no spotcolors such as

(PR#11509) rgb to cmyk conversion is wrong in
Please do study the FAQ and posting guide: R 2.7.0 is not the current sources, and this was changed a month ago in R-devel. You were asked to check for such changes before submitting a report. Also, there is no unique way to do undercover removal in conversion to CMYK, and so it is wrong to call any method 'wrong' -- in fact the one used in earlier versions of R was a documented

ogg pic format (again).. here's why
I sent a little mail some time ago asking if there was going to be an ogg pic-format, and you replied that PNG, MNG and JNG is good enough (sorry for this late answer btw).. But, consider this: The ogg video-format (tarkin ? where do you get these names from anyway ? :) ) needs a way to compress its frames. Are you going to use MNG for that ? :) .. If you had an ogg pic format, that format could

FXO recommendation
Hi all, With the gamut of FXO cards out there, I'm looking for a recommendation for home use. I have a nicely working Asterisk 1.4 system that just requires an FXO card to connect my NTL PSTN to it. My previous X101P clone seems to have kicked the bucket. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Regards Kyle -- Kyle Gordon kyle@lodge.glasgownet.com http://lodge.glasgownet.com

Saving plot to tiff, with high resolution for publication ?
Hello all. A Journal we are sending an article to is asking for the following: To ensure the best reproduction quality of your figures we would appreciate high resolution files. All figures should preferably be in TIFF or EPS format... and should have the following resolution: Graph: 800 - 1200 DPI Photo: 400 - 800 DPI Color (only CMYK): 300 - 400 DPI (DPI = dots per inch) Since I am sending

WND structures
hi all, executing a certain program with wine, we get several crashes, in the RDW_UpdateRgns function (winetop/windows/painting.c) and in a DLL of the program itself. the program always crashes after the creation of a subwindow, and the problem appears to be the same, that is, somewhere before the crash the window tree structure gets corrupted. in order to find the exact point in which this

hcl()
Hello everyone I am struggling with hcl(). It says on the manpage that "240 yields blue". With this: plot(1:50,pch=16,col=hcl(h=240, c=50, l=1:50)) I get mostly blue, but also some red, dots. Note that h=240 throughout. If 240 is blue, how come there's a red dot there? Or is it just my monitor? Can some colour expert help me on this? -- Robin Hankin Uncertainty Analyst

Reading a TIFF file
Dear all, I have been trying to speed up a process we have been done in ArcGIS. We have to read a single layer TIFF (monochrome image) in . For this, I have used the "rtiff" package. After reading the TIFF file, I compared the raw values for each pixel that I have in ArcGIS to the ones obtained in R. In ArcGIS I have discrete values in the range 0..255, while in R I have continuous

Color schemes that work for people with color-deficient vision
A recent article in the earth science literature cited below and available at http://geography.uoregon.edu/datagraphics/EOS/ points out that rainbow color schemes and mixtures of green and yellow can be troublesome for people with color-deficient vision. The authors propose alternative schemes that can be viewed and downloaded in RGB, HSV, CMYK, and RGB256 formats from

Full enumeration, how can this be vectorized
Hi all, I am currently using the code snippet below to minimize a function which I wasn't able to minimize properly with optim (cliffy surface, constraints, poles). Obviously this iteration is probably the poorest way of implementing such a function and it is expectedly slow. I've already written some vectorized functions, but I'm afraid that I'm missing the "big

Keyboard problem
I've had a Logitech cordless desktop on my primary desktop for the last few years, and every once in a while the number pad would just "go out" - the <enter> key and num-lock would still work, but of all the others would do nothing except the 5, which would pop-up a subwindow in some app on the screen that didn't have the focus. I thought this was aproblem with the

black and white colormodel for postscript figure
hi! I would like to produce simple black and white postscript figures for publishing. A black/white or grayscale or CMYK colormodel can be used, but not RGB colours. Can I produce postscript graphs in R that satisfy this? Following an earlier advice on the help-list I have tried using Photoshop to convert - but this seems to convert the vector format into raster format - giving larger,
