DNS state after upgrading samba
Thanks for your answer Rowland. That's bad news since the new DC is now in production and I can't take the risk to break anything. Cleanup after demoting an offline DC
Hi, I demoted an outdated and offline DC following to: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Demoting_a_Samba_AD_DC Everthing appears to work well but there is still one, perhaps minor, question regarding to the dns SOA-record: The zone _msdcs.samdom.example.com still lists the demoted server in the SOA record. Is it ok to manually change it to fsmo holder dc or an other dc? Thanks in advance

Upgrading Samba
Hello all, I've planned to upgrade a Samba DC from 4.6.7 to 4.9.4 . For that I will use the following method : - build a new DC from 4.9.4 sources (on CentOS 7) - join this new DC to the domain - transfer the FSMO roles from the old DC (4.6.7) to the new DC (4.9.4) - replicate the sysvoldir from old DC to new DC - demote the old DC - switch off the old DC Since I prefer to

How to modify user fields with a command line ?
Hi, On RSAT , we can see that there are some extra fields for users account like description, office, phone number or email address. I already have hundreds of user accounts in Samba AD but these extra fields have not been fed. I would like to import in particular the email address for each existing users, however I don't find a way to do that with a samba command line. Is there a way to

IceCast KH - question
Hello Thomas and Karl, thank you for your answer and time. We've tested with several listeners and different connections, using WinAmp and JW Player. For about 15 minutes, everything is ok. After 15-18 minutes, WinAmp starts do blink that "red square" (packet loss or instability), and after about 20 minutes sounds starts to "pop", with small cuts, and then starts to

Samba 4.10 / CentOS 7
Hi, I intend to upgrade our Samba AD DC from 4.9 to 4.10 on a CentOS 7 server . On the Wiki page : https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Package_Dependencies_Required_to_Build_Samba#Manually_maintained_Distribution-specific_Package_lists <https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Package_Dependencies_Required_to_Build_Samba> the yum command that lists all needed packages includes python3 for RHEL 8 /

RPC Server Unavailable - Error
Hi, We did not upgrade in the real sense of upgrade. We did not directly apply the patch on the servers. Our steps were as follows: 1. Created an additional Domain Controller with Samba-AD 4.10.4. 2. Transferred the FSMO Roles to the new domain controller. 3. Stopped Samba-AD-DC and Bind9 services, demoted the Samba-4.7.6 DCs with samba-tool domain demote command. 4. Cleaned the

random pool depletion
I'm facing a problem with dovecot 1.0 test-59; ever since I installed it and use it my random pool is always depleted whenever someone opens an imap connection. This wouldn't be too bad if the machine was used interactively, but since it is not and other services read directly from /dev/random those are sometimes blocked due to dovecot depleting the pool by reading /dev/urandom. Thus

Demoted dc not completely demoted, maybe?
I followed the "Demoting_a_Samba_AD_DC" on the Samba Wiki. After demoting the online controller and receiving a "successful" notation I scrolled down to the "Verifying The Demotion" via the listed Windows RSAT. The controller was not listed as a domain controller any more. Only the remaining two DC's appeared. Great! The "Active Directory Sites and
